Does Amazon prime shipping give you high expectations of other sites?
With Amazon prime shipping only taking 2 days I've found myself getting agitated by other companies that take longer. For instance, I bought a shirt from Thatdailydeal.com last Friday and it is still processing. Two years ago I would have thought nothing of this but now that I have grown accustomed to Prime shipping my patience is gone. I realize that its ridiculous but does anybody else notice this?
Absolutely. I get annoyed by Newegg (which is a great site) because they are "slow" compared to Amazon. In all reality, Newegg is pretty fast.
Also, I get very annoyed when I see a charge for shipping, especially if it's more than a couple of dollars.
Prime definitely has me spoiled. But also, to keep it fair and to keep myself honest, I try to remind myself that I am paying for that service - especially when comparing shipping costs and speed to other sites.
Yes, I am spoiled by Prime. Which causes me to shop at Amazon a little more often as long as the item is eligible for Prime, which just about eveything is.
I just ordered a new hot water heater and garbage disposal from Amazon. Who woulda thunk it.
I agree with @wnyx585am. You really cannot beat "free" two day shipping, when you pay $5 or more for super slow shipping elsewhere. When I shop online, if I cannot find a retailmenot coupon code for free shipping I get pretty annoyed and tend to talk myself out of the purchase. Though it may be unfair, and though yes there is a cost for Prime, I did almost all of my Christmas shopping using Amazon last year which probably came pretty close to covering the yearly subscription. So I feel like I'm on borrowed time to get the most for my money before the year runs out.
Yes, Woot needs a free two day shipping option!
Absolutely. I order so much from Amazon that I'm always a little surprised when my items from other sites don't come within 1 business week.
I recently waited over a month for a shipment from used bookstore Alibris. It was actually one of their resellers, but since Alibris's algorithm inexplicably gave the reseller a top rating despite tons of negative feedback, I'm reluctant to buy from them again.
Yep. I think it was a brilliant move by Amazon to come up with Amazon prime because it makes people think twice about ordering from other vendors. Sometimes I look at products on other sites and think, "Naahhh, I could just buy it off of Amazon for free shipping!" I very rarely order from anywhere else now (except woot!)
I am a Prime member, and I use it to buy damn near everything I'd need to buy at say, Target. For various personal reasons I don't don't shop at Target or Walmart. I know not all, or even most share my thoughts on this matter, but it's something I feel strongly about.
Then I read this article yesterday.

Now I'm not so sure I want to continue ordering crap from Amazon in this manner.
And yes, it irritates me when I have to wait more than a few hours to hear that something has shipped. I'm kind of ashamed by that. I'm even more pissed when things are not available via prime.
I got a free year of ShopRunner, so NewEgg purchases for me are 2-day shipping as well :)
I don't think I would pay for shoprunner, but it will be fun while it lasts..
I do think however that it is unrealistic to expect 2-day shipping from all companies. Amazon is big enough to be able to do that. I mean, look at Woot! =D Some of my SmartPost boxes have taken weeks to get to me!
I am patient enough
I live close to a Newegg dristribution services, so even normal delivery is overnight sometimes. Now that spoils you.
Actually, it's shirt.woot that's made me feel like a spoiled brat when I go to other t-shirt sites. I see an advertisement for a $12 shirt, go to check out, and cry out in rage when I see a 4 or 5 dollar shipping cost.
big time. i sent a rather scathing email to the vp mktg for a particular organization (thank you linkedin!) when an order i placed without free shipping (i even called...no code offered) resulted in a confirmation order with the following:
Don't Forget! Because your purchase was $50 or more, you are now eligible for the free smartphone offer.
with content:
Really? Because I spent more than $50, you're going to do me the favor of letting me sign up for a "free" smartphone through a mobile provider that will lock me into a contract and channel referral rewards to you? Wow, what an opportunity!
Why wouldn't you focus your efforts on more customer friendly campaigns such as FREE SHIPPING over $50; not the deceptive "free smartphone" gimmick. Get with the times, [vendor]. You will surely lose out on the ecommerce battle with positioning like this.
