Clarifications please : living or dead ? ( yes I know your choice Schrodinger is deceased) What field of science ? Physics only ? Or any field ( including medical, biology, agricultural , chemistry, etc, or all around renaissance kind of person ? ) Not sure you can compare all those fields very fairly.

@ceagee: I'm not picky and not looking to do a lot of comparing :-) I'm just trying to promote science and math. So I mean anyone in any field, I'm always a fan of math and physics but I'd be interested to expand my knowledge and maybe pick up a few more favorites. I'd also be interested in hearing what you think has been the most profound or resonating discovery of the last 100 years. I was torn between those questions. :-P

@hot72chev: Today is a busy crazy day for me. I am so HAPPY that I took the time to read this question.

Best link to anything I've seen in a month!

Thank you! :-D

XXOO

{I have so many favorite scientists that I would need at least four or five comments just to get them on the page, but Tesla is on that list.}

I've always liked Enrico Fermi. And Isaac Newton.

A great scientist (real or fictional) makes it easy for everyone to understand what they are talking about.

Hawking is the best rapper, so i have to go with him....

My wife :)

Also, don't piss off a molecular biologist/virologist. It's just not smart.

Professor Irwin Corey!

(plus he was married for seventy years!)

note that this question does not follow the rules set forth in the recently launched official FAQ in that it does not discuss a "deal" :(

vote-for2vote-against

@natedogg828: They'll be deleting most of this forum soon. It was in before the FAQ It's either grandfathered in or they've got serious deleting to do.

@nmchapma: ATC is going to become a very boring place...one more proverbial nail

vote-for3vote-against

oh yeah, answering the actual question

real: probably Tesla
fictional: professor from powder puff girls

Oliver Sacks. Not only is he an incredibly brilliant boffin but he seems like he would actually be a lot of fun to hang out with.

@mortar235: good answer. i use to watch science guy all the time as a kid. i hate to sound cliche, but he actually made science cool/fun

Stephen Hawking

And now, with the New FAQs/rules that questions must be Deal-Related or they will be zapped, I fear that this question and my answer will be deleted.

There is a notable lack of women on this list ! How about Rosalind Franklin
Watson and Crick stole her work and took all credit for DNA model.

Today? Here's a good book I'm reading by a physicist

Note: I linked to her book on Amazon so now this is a deal discussion ! heheheh. There are ways to skirt the rules.
Have a question ? Find a book about it and bring that up as the deal. How can they knock a nice link to the mothership. Someone just might want to buy the book.

Hawking, Tesla, Einstein (even though he married his cousin). Einstein and I share a birthday too.

@shrdlu: Thanks! I cannot take credit for actually finding that link. Some dear community member here on deals.woot posted it a few months ago (I'm sorry I don't know who it was). I had the very SAME reaction you had - boy, am I glad I took the time to click that, funniest thing I had seen in a long time.

Tesla Rules, Edison Drools!

OH OH OH. Wait. Have to change my answer.

My Mother-In-Law is my favorite Scientist. I mean it, it's not just 'cause I'm related to her through marriage. Her name is on a paper, so that makes her awesome. :D

Can not pick 1, not going to happen.
