Does the knot of a politician's tie carry any tradition?
I once heard that the knot of a politician's tie carries some sort of traditional nod to their party or their conservative/liberal stance. For example, a half windsor might signify a Republican or conservative whereas a full windsor would be a liberal or Democrat. Has anyone else heard/seen this?
Ummmmmm...no. Never heard anything of the sort.
I only know of one knot that relates back to a specific government employee but not necessarily his or her party affiliation: The Pratt knot. I only know this because it is the knot I use.
I know Obama mostly goes with the four-in-hand knot, which some can use to describe his political philosophy. I would just say that the four-in-hand is the quickest and easiest knot to tie, thus the most practical for someone who has to wear a tie so often.
Nope. Used to political stuff for a living, but never heard of anything about knots in ties.
I've always thought that the knots on politicians ties should be used to tighten said tie in a fashion similar to a hangman's knot.
