A Sony A/V receiver that was pretty high end about 10 years ago. It supports Dolby Digital, DTS, etc. and still sounds great, but HDMI wasn't even dreamed up yet when I bought it so I use an external HDMI switch and some other conversion magic for that. Thankfully my Harmony One remote ties the whole system together seamlessly.

For speakers I have JBL towers for the front L/R, a matching JBL center, and a couple of smaller JBL's for the rear. And I have a 15" Polk Audio sub.

Again, the heart of this system was put together about 10 years ago when I built a DVD home theater, and parts of it have been upgraded to handle Blu-Ray and the newer video formats. While it would be fun to throw $1500+ at a modern A/V receiver, I can't justify it since the current system works/sounds great still.

Onkyo HT-S9400THX

Love it. Bought it when they released it last year. Newegg had typed the price in wrong and I ended up getting it for less than the 8400 sale price, about 60% off retail the day Onkyo released it. Never would have paid retail or even the discounted/sale price, just too much money. But damn the sound is good.

Desktop = Bose Companion 5.

Home = ONKYO HT-S5400.

Honestly, I still kinda preferred my desktop setup.

Pioneer VSX-1019AH Receiver and 5.1 Acoustic Research HD510 speakers/sub. They compliment my 50" Panasonic Plasma very well. I'd love to upgrade the speakers / sub, but can't justify the cost.

I’m kind of weird in how I have to have everything matching. I got a pioneer plasma about 4 years ago and just this Christmas added some audio equipment. I fount a pioneer VSX-40 receiver on sale at best buy for 199 instead of the 450 retail. Bought two sets of the pioneer SP-BS41-LR’s that woot had a while back. Found an SW-8 sub on ebay for half price. I had to pay retail for the center though.

Overall I pleased with the sound quality and the deals I was able to find.

Sony HTS in a box. DAV-DX150, but looking to upgrade, because like @tfisch, HDMI wasn't in the pipelines yet (about 10 years ago). Still, it works great, has a 5-disc changer, upscales DVDs, plays MP3 and JPG discs has a AM/FM tuner and full 5.1 surround. Works for what I need it for, but want something to pipe my PS3 into.
