Does Best Buy closing some of its stores affect you?
Best Buy announced the 50 stores they are closing. It appears CA is the hardest hit and none in my state of Michigan. I feel for the people that are about to lose their jobs, but even if the one here were to close, I don't think I'd miss it. I remember a few years ago Best Buy was the place for electronics/CDs/movies, etc., but not so much any more. Does anybody still go to Best Buy regularly?
Here's the full list of store closings:

No stores near me closing. Even if they were, I don't think it would really affect me. I think the last time I was even in a Best Buy was over Christmas when my Mom was looking for a case for her new camera and I suggested we check there. I think she found one that works well for her. But I don't remember the last time I bought anything at a Best Buy.
None of them in my area, but then I don't shop there anyway. I've never been impressed with Best Buy.
I go regularly...with the click of a mouse.
When they give up and close all the stores like Circuit City and CompUSA I guess I'll see an increase in email spam. Other than that, no effect on my life.
One of the two stores in my local area is closing. I have never set foot in the store that is closing. I rarely have a need to go to Best Buy, because I can nearly always get a better price somewhere else.
If the last store in this area closed it would affect me a little bit, but I can't say I couldn't get by without it.
My local one is closing. Next closest is 40 minutes/30 miles away. Really unhappy about it (I use it somewhat occasionally, mostly for free in-store pickup), but not surprised as it's in an incredibly lower class area. Checked out the clearance sale they had going on and there wasn't anything amazing, but did get 10% off an item I was planning on buying anyway at full price elsewhere.
Meh, Best Buy is really just a show floor for amazon, so I'm not surprised that they are closing stores down. Heck, I was just there checking out a nook which I'm going to buy from B&N (refurb).
Not closing near me. I'll still have a local place to buy ridiculously overpriced $25 HDMI cables.
Wouldn't affect me either way as I rarely shop there any more. I worked there during college and used to support them, but they keep getting worse and falling further behind and they aren't worth dealing with.
@wingnutzero: The occasional times my husband and I go to Best Buy, we always here the salesmen talking up the $80 Monster HDMI cables. We just shake our heads.
None closing near me. I haven't been inside one in months and even longer since I bought something inside one.
As much as I have no love for Best Buy, the notion of these big vacant storefronts is sad, not to mention the people being put out of work.
My local one is not on the list. I rarely make a purchase from them. I have used them to see and touch something I am thinking about buying. Usually if I do buy the item it is not from Bestbuy.
The reward zone program irratated me a few years back. Partly my fault but bad business practice in my opinion. I had a $20 certificate almost ready to expire. I was not happy about the short span it was valid to start my mood. I looked online and picked out an item I wanted. When I read the fine print, you could not use the certificate for an online purchase. Terrific, I will drive over and just buy it in store, not far but out of my way. The same item instore was nearly double in price. Granted it was not an expensive thing but it did not improve my mood. When I asked an employee, I got a basic brush off, the sale is online only and your certificate is not valid online. I use Bestbuy as a last resort if I need something right away.
Nope, the closest one to me is 45 minutes away. I feel sorry for the people who are losing their jobs but I only use their online site occasionally for a price check.
Wouldn't bother me in the least. I don't think I've bought anything there in over 3 years. (Nearest one to me is staying open.)
I had a Best Buy gift card (from @JumboWoot, I seem to recall) and went to one near me. I spent 30 minutes in the store and couldn't find anything that was worth buying. Everthing was either not interesting, or overpriced to the nth degree. None closing near me, but I wouldn't be sad if any did in the future.
There is a Best Buy fairly close to me that is closing, but the store closest to me is staying open. It does like some good is going to come from their financial woes.
I read a story last week that Best Buy knows they are losing a ton of business to a practice they called "show-rooming." Basically people go to BB to see/try products in person, then they check online prices on their smartphone and purchase the products cheaper online.
To combat the practice, they plan to lower their prices to be very competitive with online shops. I love the instant gratification of shopping at a physical store, but hate the high prices, so I'm looking forward to that.
Best Buy IS NOT THE BEST BUY-
The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Employees are not trained and really dont care!
The reward zone is a joke. Never works- cant get certs printed.
The store have no selection.
Tried to buy a sound system in June 2011. Had to go to 3 stores to get what I needed.
same at Christmas- no I phones. HASSLE HASSLE HASSLE.
GOOD BYE BEST BUY. I wont miss you. Close all the dam stores.
