I'll start, I suppose: I am a grad student in physics, with particular interest in astrophysics/cosmology. I was born and bred in Texas but decided (due to some lapse of judgment?) to move up north for grad school...so that I could better experience winter weather. It's different from winter in Texas, that's for sure!!

vote-for5vote-against

@shrdlu: oh thank you because I didn't want to type my answer again.

vote-for8vote-against

@shrdlu: Thanks; I didn't know if people would want to re-read through the old threads, and I thought it would be nice to have a new post for the currently-participating members to contribute - but for continuity's sake, I'm glad you picked up my slack!!

vote-for1vote-against

@hobbit: I hope that wasn't a "wow is she dumb" answer... :/

vote-for8vote-against

@angstangel: won't make you look like a fool.

I'm a Chemical Engineer out of WPI; I work for United Tech designing fuel cells.

In my geekdom, my BF and I tool around with all sorts of things from Battlebots, to FSAE cars, to rockets...

I'm an avid runner - I'm a multiple-marathoner, ultra-racer... I love long distance relays like Ragnar.

I recently discovered Deadmau5 and have been jamming to it at work...

>.> ... Um.... yeah. Hi...

vote-for6vote-against

@angstangel: Just because you really and truly need this:

THWACK

[Just to keep anyone from being confused, the OP needed thwacking because we all know Hobbit wouldn't be mean to poor Shrdlu; well, not unless it was funny, or deserved, of course.]

vote-for3vote-against

@angstangel: No, it is a Hobbit is too lazy to retype her answer, answer.

vote-for1vote-against

@hobbit @shrdlu: I was just going to annoyingly copy & paste myself from last time, although I can't recall by looking at them in which I posted.

hmmmmm

vote-for2vote-against

@hobbit: YOU rule. I got distracted reading the 2nd link first.

Update: I finally quit my soul-suck of a bartending job. AND it's summer now, so I'm free from the weekly commitment of Ski Patrol. Bring on the boating, skiing, bonfires... :)

Happy happy happy happy girl now that I've cut loose some extraneous stressors. :)

vote-for7vote-against

Well a lot has happened since I last posted one of these things.

1. I got married to a wonderful young lady (reason for disappearance).

2. Got busier at work watching episodes of Taxi on youtube.

That may not sound like a lot, but newly married couples don't have a lot of free time. Also my wife is not a big fan of computers, which I am working on.

vote-for2vote-against

@shrdlu: @hobbit: Actually, from the "I didn't want to type my answer again" I was worried that hobbit thought I was being dumb (e.g., the comments from the other thread regarding people who post wondering where their orders are); I wasn't saying that either of you was attempting to insult the other!

vote-for9vote-against

Some of this is gonna look pretty similar to the post by @mmaurice01

I'm a Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineer out of RPI; I work for UTC Pratt & Whitney designing engines.

In my geekdom, my GF and I tool around with all sorts of things from Warhammer 40k, to videogaming, to tennis...

I'm an avid slacker - I'm a multiple-loafer, ultra-procrastinator... I love short distance relays like from my computer to the fridge.

I recently discovered Deals.Woot and have been surfing it at work...

<.< ... Um.... yeah. Goodbye...

Since I haven't done one of these yet.
I have been Bippy the Beardless for 27 years, more than half my life, and most of the time with a full facial beard. I have trained in Ninjutsu and worked as a British spy. I was a research neurophysicist for a few years in London, I now live in Silicon Valley. I've seen the sun rise in Petra, and appeared in a Japanese commercial. I am missing two organs (not those two). My favourite colour is blue.
One of the above is a lie.

vote-for3vote-against

@shadowhunter312: Hi :) I like meeting people from my neck of the woods. I used to hang out at RPI quite a bit.

vote-for5vote-against

I don't know that I've done one of these yet...

Male, Early 30's, southern. I'm a programmer in an old and otherwise unused flavor of assembly. Married, 2 young kids, 2 young cats. I'm also active on WeeWar.com if any of you like online strategy war games. Keeping details minimal so I don't ruin the image some of you have made up about me (still looking for a good deal on a pith hat!)

Oh almost forgot - I am the creator of http://www.dosomethingunexpectedlyniceforsomeonejustbecauseday.info/
the website of the @lavikinga inspired holiday Do Something Unexpectedly Nice for Someone Just Because Day

vote-for3vote-against

@mmaurice01: Ello, and nice to meet you as well. I am actually from south MA originally (now in mid-west CT), so I'm familiar with WPI as well and actually took a course there.

I was also in the fraternity at RPI call AXP, though it was quite different from the media's portrayal being at a tech school. Spending time with tabletop gaming instead of hazing and sexually harassing women. Though still plenty of drinking, certainly doens't make D&D any less fun :D I know WPI had a chapter too, not sure if you are familiar with it and I've only had passing experience with their members, a bit less nerdy than us, but still nerdy.

Well, I am certainly having fun chattin and listening.

vote-for3vote-against

@shadowhunter312: We have Crow at Tech too. I'm an alpha gam (sorority) also there at RPI too...

:D This makes me happy.

vote-for1vote-against

Opens Greek Row for the kids.

vote-for4vote-against

@bippythebeardless: Is it...missing two organs?

@tygerdave: Wow, assembly; I am impressed.

vote-for5vote-against

I'm late 20's, male, married, have a one-year old son who is the joy of my life, just graduated from law school (all together now: tell us something we DON'T know!), grew up in Los Angeles, but not living there currently.

vote-for3vote-against

@shrdlu: Thanks for linking to those other "Get to Know Your Wooters" threads. Very enjoyable reading, slowly making my way through them. They reveal a number of the Wooters to be "scientifically inclined" to put it mildly. I've always gotten along fabulously with the scientists, computer programmers, and engineers in my life, and have been slowly coming to grips with the reality that I'm a closeted geek. So it figures something about this place felt right to me.

vote-for3vote-against

@tygerdave: Assembler? What kind? Come on, the old fart club wants to know. What platform?

[Edit] @bippythebeardless: Do I know you? Worked for MI5? When? What years?

vote-for4vote-against

My favourite colour is silver.

Spys have to have databases. I no longer have my appendix or gallbladder.

vote-for2vote-against

@bippythebeardless: Damn, and I figured it was that you really were beardless...

vote-for2vote-against

@shrdlu: I worked at GCHQ, so we wouldn't have met, unfortunately.

vote-for3vote-against

@angstangel: I was going for pity, but I'll take impressed

@shrdlu: PM me if you really want to know

vote-for1vote-against

@tygerdave: I am impressed that you put yourself through that? ;)

vote-for1vote-against

@tygerdave: Fine; I actually went to the bother. You have not made many posts, or at least not many that a cursory search showed. Your PM awaits. I'll check back much later.

Hello nerds. When introducing ourselves, we cannot accurately tell other people who we are because in an audience of 50 people, we are bound to have fifty different reputations, so I'm not going to go ahead and tell you who I am, but I will tell you a few of my likes and dislikes, allowing you to judge me as you please.

Likes:
Meat(including bacon), Science, Boobs, Shiner Bock Beer, Large mouth bass fishing(catch and release), 4x4 trucks, kayaking, tools, Dallas Cowboys, Guns, knives, anything outdoors, Internet, Marine biology, biking, weightlifting, boxing(no MMA garbage please), chocolate, cheese cake, hunting, dogs, wildlife, in no particular order.

Dislikes:
People, gays.

vote-for4vote-against

Oh My,
I'm an old lady of 60~high school dropout~married 36 years~2 children~4 going on 5 grandkids. Like walking, and soon going to Lake Placid with 30 friends and relatives for our yearly climb.

vote-for6vote-against

Hmmmm let's see because I am in a mood...

I don't believe in censorship. I haven't gotten the point of hunting really why kill Bambi? I love all my gay friends. I hate the Dallas criminals, I mean cowboys - I never liked the NFL until I moved to North Carolina and discovered a team that actually wins with out whingeing and cheating.

Most of you know I grew up in the NW - the land of floating bridges and latte's. I didn't want to work for Microsquash or Boeing, so I ran away in 96 after grad school. It probably didn't hurt that I was tired of the weather, traffic and tourist season. I love Summer in NC because I know that I would be freezing my tushy off in Seattle.

And this is who I am...right now

Oh yea I lie about my age constantly, because I can - no one believes me when I tell them how I old I am anyway. So except for the chosen few none of you will know either.

vote-for1vote-against

@gigi889: Just so you know. I am nearly 63, and female. I do not think of myself as old. Well, except when I've been pulling weeds for an hour, and have to use the hand rake to get up for a glass of water and cooling down (it's above 100 Fahrenheit).

vote-for1vote-against

@shrdlu: you are younger than my parents. okay I am going to stop laughing now.

vote-for2vote-against

shrdu, you "sound" much younger! I don't feel old~unless I catch myself accidently in a mirror, then whoa. Was weeding today, I like using the claw to help me stand~longer pole.

vote-for1vote-against

@hobbit: lol, I'm glad you felt compelled to let everyone know that you oppose several of the listed likes on my previous post. Whatever happened to "don't feed the trolls?"

vote-for3vote-against

@luisibarra81: Well, personally, I think the Dallas Cowboys haven't been worth a Tinker's Dam since they fired Coach Landry in 1989. Jerry Jones is a moron. I neither like nor dislike gays in general, and don't question the sexuality of my friends, expecting that what any two adults do together is their own damned business. Other than that, your list is okay, but not very interesting.

Happy now?

vote-for2vote-against

@shrdlu: You sound sharp as a tack, so don't think twice about your age. Goes for you too, @hobbit.

Fascinating to have people of all different ages, professions, and interests all (mostly) getting along here and (more or less) enjoying each other's company. Only in the age of the internet, my friends.

And @shrdlu: Well put.

vote-for1vote-against

@luisibarra81: Feeding or not feeding the troll, not my rule. You seem pretty harmless, and have actually been funny once or twice.

vote-for2vote-against

@luisibarra81: we are hoping if we keep feeding you that
A) you will like us and join us by being nice to people or
B) get really sick of it all and find a new sandbox to play in

vote-for2vote-against

@shrdlu: not many posts on the Woot! side, was never drawn to that community just checked the deal. reply is there for you I'll check later to see if there is a reply.

@hobbit: i'm not a hunter myself but with the drought we've had the past few years, hunters have been the only thing keeping the deer from starving. My wife works in land protection and many of the land owners that she works with would see the deer being forced to eat the plants they usually don't touch until the winter. If hunting hadn't thinned the population a lot of deer would have starved.

vote-for5vote-against

Lest's do this one list style.

1.I AM NOT A WOMAN. Yes my name looks like it might be some foreign spelling for "Claudia," but I assure you, I don't have the right parts to fit that description. :)

2.I currently reside in Boise, Idaho. I love it here so much, I may never leave. I have lived all over this great nation of ours, and I truly believe that my heart is here. The weather is perfect, the people are friendly, and the landscape is... breathtaking.

3.I moved here to go to school at Boise State University. I am a 33 year old returning education student getting a bachelor's degree in psychology, and soon, a master's degree in counseling to become a psychotherapist. (Maybe then I can get a few of those insipid trolls on my couch and find out why they are such a-holes)

4.Fun fact about me: I was a radio DJ for almost 7 years. I loved it. It had a lot of perks, it was fun, Then I realized I like to eat more than I like to be on the air. :)I'm told I do not sound like I look.

vote-for1vote-against

@claudicina: oh please tell me that people do not expect you to sound like a guido.

vote-for1vote-against

@hobbit: lol I don't know what they expect, but when people hear me after they see my picture, that is what they say...

One of the woot staff has heard my voice. I'm not sure she remembers, but if she does, I bet she can attest to my non-guido sounding voice. :)

vote-for6vote-against

Egad. So far I am the oldest one. Female, former bureaucrat, love to shop and find deals, been a Wooter for quite awhile now. I am in awe of all of you - dbase was what I used on my first computer. Used to use a teletype machine to communicate overseas - a dinosaur happy to be among you.

vote-for1vote-against

@klozitshoper: And we are happy you are here! Welcome!

Alrighty then.......53, live in NW MT (a few miles from Glacier NP & the Canada border) with the grizzlies & mountain lions, yes I own guns (but don't hunt), and am planning to get a couple more in the near future i.e. shotgun and concealed carry (Glock .40 most likely). Love chocolate and shellfish, but not chocolate-covered shellfish. Ex-techie who worked @ Rutgers Computer Lab when keypunch machines and the TRS-80 were popular. Went on to rep Televideo and Novell Star Servers until I eschewed the computer business and got back to doing creative stuff. Skier 49 yrs, boarder 14 yrs, both high expert. Flatwater kayaker and amateur lifelong guitarist. Owner of both a class 3 FCC broadcaster's license and a MT Medical Marijuana card. I don't dislike gays, just some of their flaminess and other affectations. Dislike hillbillies and their relatives, the Montuckians. Dislike Republicans and Democrats, and sheeple who can't think critically. I talk trash just to get a rise out of people. -Z
