Eh, at least they are better than the 'no-click' websites. A fad that died quickly, and rightfully so.

Is an "infinite scroll" just what it sounds like? No page breaks, just one really, really long page?

If that's what they are, then no, I don't like them.

OTOH, I have a Logitech mouse with a button that lets me toggle to free-scroll mode, which is useful when I'm on a site with what seems to be an endless page. That option is very handy.

Never ending reddit (an RES feature that does exactly that) is a wonderful thing.

@magic cave: As I understand infinite scroll, it has been decided that scroll bars and/or clicking an arrow are 'not cool'. So when you see a website (that still scrolls vertically, mind) with a line of pictures, and when you move your mouse to the right or left, the line scrolls...THAT"S infinite scroll.

By the name, one would assume when you get to the last picture, the first picture appears next, but there does seem to be a definite end to infinity.

@rprebel: I was going to mention that as well. I almost exclusively reddited on my phone for this very reason. Then I discovered RES and wonderful things happened.

I think infinite scroll is alright when there's a choice to load more, like Google's "Show more results" button in image search. Pages that make that decision for you are kind of annoying, especially if you're trying to judge the length of a result set by the size of your scroll bar.

Urgh. Just checked around, and my mates are telling me that infinite scroll also encompasses those "you've reached the bottom of the page, so we're going to load more..ha ha, it wasn't really the bottom of the page, sucker!" pages. Those kinda annoy me. The ones with the side-scrolling pictures are ok.

I like them, my RAM however, does not.

@stile99: Thank you for the explanation. Given that info, I don't like 'em.

they are the best, all you do is press ctrl + F + and whatever you're looking for and BAM no scrolling endlessly to the right/left/down/ect.

@andrewhallze: That doesn't always work. Many sites, the rest of the page doesn't load until you reach the false bottom, and then it starts to load more products.
