After untold years of drinking coffee I have never noticed that on my cans until you mentioned it. I have a plastic Folgers can with a snap-on lid that I use and it stays fresh just fine outside the fridge.

I keep a moderate amount of grounds in a canister on the counter. However, I buy large tubs of coffee which I store in the freezer until I need them. Supposed to keep it fresh, control the loss of moisture. I don't know if it's true, but I still do it.

No. It's more important to keep it air tight to keep the oils from evaporating.

I keep bagged ground coffee in the fridge in a zip-lock. The canned stuff with a lid stays in the pantry.

Coffee in the fridge? Oh dear Lord, the horrors. The oils will absorb odors, not to mention the condensation issue.

But then again if you are buying pre-ground (especially Folgers) you don't really give a crap about flavor anyway.

I never keep any coffee in the refrigerator. I keep unopened bags of coffee in the freezer. Once I open them, the grounds are kept in airtight canisters on a kitchen counter top. I keep the large containers with lids in a cabinet, even once opened.

You really shouldn't ever keep coffee in the fridge. As already said keeping the coffee in airtight containers is more important. When you store coffee in the fridge and regularly take it in and out you expose it to moisture which will ruin the flavor more quickly.

Freezer bags, in the freezer. Make sure you get all the air out. I freeze beans too.

The aromatics in the coffee beans come out of the beans at a rate dependent upon (among other things) temperature. Keeping the coffee colder lowers the vapor pressure of the esthers and other aromatics in the coffee, extending it's shelf life.

The coffee we use most often (a New Orleans blend with chicory, YUM!) we keep in an airtight container on the counter. It's never more than a few days before we use it up, anyway.

Coffee that we use only occasionally, such as decaf, some specialty blends, etc, we keep in airtight bags in the freezer.

(Pssst. I keep the decaf around for my MIL. Heaven knows she doesn't need any caffeine to make her more chatty!)

I grind as I use. New beans weekly.
but
I keep a can of ground Cuban coffee in the freezer for when my parents visit.
Fridge? Dunno about all that, but if the can says so...

Since no one has yet said it...I don't drink coffee. I do keep Mountain Dew and a pitcher of tea in the refrigerator, though.

I don't. I do sometimes throw new bags in the freezer until I'm ready to open it when I may buy a few on a buy-one-get-one deal. But, since I drink/make coffee on an almost daily basis, I doubt having it refrigerated would matter.. even if it matters to begin with. I can go through it fairly quickly.

I NEVER freeze or refrigerate my coffee. I grind enough beans for several days and keep it in an airtight container in a cool cabinet. Here's why:

I don't refrigerate my beans. Just keep 'em airtight and out of the light. Not sure that light matters, though.

Just want to add my voice to the chorus that says grind as you use 'em. If you don't have a grinder, you can often find one at the grocery store that'll do a suitable job, just buy less at one time. Grinding fresh, especially with a burr grinder, makes a cup so much better!

(I'd also recommend switching to a press pot or Chemex instead of drip.)
