Did you hear about the Redbox price hike?
I just received this email from Redbox. Let everyone know what your thoughts are.
Redbox is making an announcement about its prices today, and we want to make sure that you hear it from us first.
Starting on Monday, October 31, the daily rental charge for DVDs will change to $1.20 a day.* The price change is due to rising operating expenses, including new increases in debit card fees. Daily rental charges for Blu-ray™ Discs and video games won't change.** Additional-day charges for DVDs rented before 10/31 won't be affected, either.
In order to make the transition easier, Redbox will discount the first day of all online DVD rentals to $1.00 from 10/31 through 11/30. Additional rental days will be $1.20.*
If you have any questions, please visit redbox.com/pricechange. There, we've provided additional information.
This marks our first price change in more than eight years as we work hard to keep prices low for our customers.
Thank you,
Yup, they released something about it maybe a month or two ago. There was a discussion on here about if the $0.20 was a make it or break it.
Personally, $1 for a movie rental is one hell of a deal. $0.20 more isn't going to break it for me. I'll probably rent Blu-ray more since it's only $0.30 more.

It wont affect them nearly as the price hike affected Netflix...
Although .20 cents isnt anything compared to the way netflix screwed themselves. Still a deal, you lose more than that in your car seats and sofas!
it's not Redbox fault when Debit card charges go up. That's just how business works.. operation expense goes up = consumer pays for it
Just the way it is.. Redbox also has tons of free codes all the time so it's not a big deal IMO
Wait wait wait. Didn't debit fees for merchants go down? Isn't that why banks will be charging their users these new debit card fees to make up the difference?
It doesn't seem bad even though it is only 20 cents but it is still a 20% hike. I am not complaining. I understand and will still be using redbox. Just was giving everyone an FYI.
Yeah, I'm ok with a $0.20 price hike.
I can't say I'm in love with it, but it's ok. They don't really have any competition- the Blockbuster boxes are pretty rare around here. And on-demand cable/DirecTV/AppleTV/etc is a lot more expensive...
@chris12345: You're right about merchants' swipe fees going down, thus putting a major dent in bank income. I doubt the Redbox increase has anything to do with swipe fees specifically.
Do you give a (profanity)... LOL... never used a redbox and wont anytime soon.... got to support my local video store.
Doesn't effect me. I rent Blu Ray.
Only 20 cents, that's not bad.
I've tried to use Redbox a few time because I had free codes. Honestly, I could never find anything I wanted to watch on BluRay. Yes, that particular time I settled for a regular DVD. But under normal circumstances, I'd just download the movie off the net versus having to leave my house, pay $1 for one night of a standard def movie, and leave again to return it. Sorry guys. It's just not for me. If they get more BluRay in their boxes, I'll try them again.
