Can you help me with a Wireless Mouse and Keyboard combo?
Mom wants a new set. Let's just say her current keyboard and mouse combo is about 7 years old, the mouse can move and click, but it can't click-hold-drag...nor can it double click. It's lifespan was gone a long time ago.
It was a logitech set.
She'd like to have another combo for mothers day. I'm looking for something around the $40 or lower range. No, she does not do any gaming, just e-mails, facebook, and the kids' homework is done on this pc.
Open Box deals are ok too-- I'm going to set it up for her before she arrives home.
I ask because I haven't got the slightest clue where to start with quality, battery life and so on.
Amazon's #1 pick is a nice price..

Any other suggestions?
The #1 item on Amazon is a good price for a good set. Logitech makes great stuff.
I may be the only person that thinks this, but I think you should get her a wired set, especially if this is for a desktop. No batteries to replace, no tracking issues due to a far away sensor, no small mouse sensor to lose, etc.
Here is a good price on one, also a Logitech:

@rlapid2112: I saw that, but I think the one from amazon is a step up. Also, a little cheaper -- I have amazon prime, so free shipping, just in time for Mother's Day
@thefenst: I'd love to get her a wired set... God only knows why she hates wired. It's one of those irrational motherly quirks.
i got the the logitech wave wireless set before and LOVED it! it was like driving a top of the line leather seat cadillac on a cloud

i bought mine at a nearby store called Microcenter but they sell it everywhere including Best Buy. check it out in store and see if you don't fall in love :)
@w00tgurl: <3 I love microcenter. I live 3 miles from the only one in Michigan.
Battery life @ 3 years?? Really? Can you confirm?
@yukoimada: i'm not sure, i think i replaced the batteries once ever. i used to do a lot of reports for work and this set was my fave ever. i went through keyboards like crazy. lots of stuck and jammed keys from me pounding away. this set was great until i spilled soda on it (darn Coke addiction) then changed offices and lost the receiver stick.
one of the reviews on the main product page says 750 hours and that was average for that person.
BTW, if your mom absolutely hates it, maybe she'll pass it to you and you could use it. it's sortof "big" like a command center. if she likes tiny, boxy keyboards, look elsewhere.
@w00tgurl: I think we have a winner! That'll last a lot longer than her current set - battery-wise. She would replace batteries every week. :( I think I'll get her this keyboard/mouse combo and a rechargeable battery pack. Thank you!
@w00tgurl: I wouldn't want to use it -- I've got a gaming pc. It does look pretty nice to type on, however!
She does the kids homework? Awesome Mom in my book!
If you dont mind a refurb I love the Logitech S520. ~18 dollars on geeks.

@byebyeburdie: Ha, yeah. To make a long story short -- yep, she does about 65% of the kid's homework. Looking at that set, however -- I think it's the same one she has now. I think it'd seem pretty tacky to just replace it with the same thing.
If she has a computer that runs windows I'd suggest this one;
All she has to do is plug in the flashdrive (which conveniently attaches to the bottom of the mouse when not being used) and it'll be ready to go right out of the box (it might install a driver or two but I believe it just came ready to go for me). It's a very sleek design and works like a baws. The best thing is that it has hotkeys already programmed at the top of the keyboard. I nearly excreted bricks the first time I pressed the calculator button and the calculator popped up.
@holymythos: LOL! "I nearly excreted bricks the first time I pressed the calculator button and the calculator popped up"
