Anyone in a 100-mile radius of Franklin, NC?
I'm headed there tomorrow to spend a lovely week of letting the world run without me for a while. Anyone have any ideas on how to spend some time? I have some overall mobility problems, so hiking, biking, rafting and such are pretty much off my agenda. I'm considering trying one of the zipline things, if the weather stays reasonably nice, and I think I'll try gem mining again (the last time was 30 years ago). Any other ideas?

If I recall, Franklin is near Nashville? I have never been to Nashville, but there is Grand Ole Opry if nothing else, and I am sure there are lots of something elses! The autumn colors should be beautiful this time of year also. Sorry I am not much help, but I am sure you can find some ideas via Google. Maybe Dollywood is near there? Have a really wonderful time.
@klozitshoper: I appreciate your ideas, but [grin] I think you've misplaced Franklin. It's about 270 miles from Nashville. Fortunately, google is always a winner!
@magic cave: I'm about 150 miles away (bristol, TN/VA area). The leaves will be in peak next week, so you picked a great time to come up. There are lots of places to go hiking, etc. You'r literally smack-dab in the middle of the Smokey Mountain National Forest. Maggie Valley is interesting. I haven't been out that way in about 5-6 years, but there are lots of little mom and pop doo-dad type shops. That's always fun. There's too much to name.
@capguncowboy: Thank you for the pointer to Maggie Valley; that looks like a great day-trip destination.
Unlike our earlier years of vacationing in the boonies, we'll both have laptops (and the new HP tablet, which I've yet to play with), so I'll be able to check in here periodically to keep abreast of good deals.
@magic cave: Gosh I had Franklin, Tennessee, stuck in my head. Sorry, (hangs head in shame, leaves the room)
@klozitshoper: :::laughing::: The spouse did much the same thing for a few days while he was checking local weather concerns.
A trip across the top of the Smokies on hwy 441 to Gatlinburg is worth it, and a side trip to Cades Cove while you are there will make a great day trip. Cades Cove is one of the prettiest and most historic parts of the National Park.
