What's your word for 2013?
I don't like New Year's Resolutions. I think that, by & large, they set us up for failure. Lose weight, clean the garage, change spending habits...they don't address the underlying crap that prompted those woes.
A few years ago, I did a fluffy leadership program & one thing that stuck with me was choosing a "word of the year" rather than a list of resolutions. The word should resonate with you as a "missing link," to address whatever the external manifestation of your issue is: weight gain, disorganization, wacky spending, etc.
Examples:
Gratitude
Action
Courage
Independence
Kindness
Awareness
Forgiveness
Obviously, you have to check in with your word, like a fitness regime or your budget, but you're looking at it all from a deeper perspective.
I'm still pondering my word. And it may not be for everybody. But as I'm creating some year-end content, I thought i'd float this as a way of sharing how I am looking ahead.
Patience
Diphthong
A bit more symbolic rather than literal, but it makes sense to me.

Great. This is a thought-provoking question! Is it OK if I get back to you in a day or two, you know, after my brain actually kick-starts again and I can think about it?

Callipygian.
"Legs"
Let's help spread the word!

Grace
The divine kind, not the movement kind. Something I need to think about from time to time.
@conanthelibrarian: "BIRD"...is ALWAYS the word!!
Change. Not just change, but "positive change". Is there a single word for that?
Teabag
@conanthelibrarian: Hm... a certain ornithological piece you say:

Game over, there IS no other answer.
Balance.
PIZZAZZ!
@luvche21: I think it used to be Obama but it didn't work out. So lets go with Pemberducky?
Clusterf......I can't say that, right? Or type it?
Transition. Just because it sounds cooler than just plain change.
Right now, it seems like the word is "craphammer"
Humility.
Determination
Shenanigans!
I also propose "cheeky" or "kerfluffle."
Gumption, most definitely. And balance. I tend to get depressed and see the negative side of things. I'm hoping to start a jar that, for every complaint I have about life, I need to write down any silver linings or things to be happy about or thankful for and add it to the jar.
@kllangellier: Sometimes a hard lesson to learn: there's ALWAYS an upside, it's just not always for you. But by golly, it's there.
@havocsback: Exactly, I just need to remind myself of this fact, lol. Thankfully when others (typically friends) are happy it helps lift my mood instead of making me envious or jealous. I just need to use this to my advantage so I can remind myself of the good things instead of all the bad. I need to feel more balanced, as my emotions are all over the place, especially as of late.
Transformation
Vigilance. As in "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."
Responsibility.
In everything. Finances, personal relationships, work...
Fnord
Fit
I've gotten a jump start on it and decided that if I started at the beginning of December and could stick through the holidays, then maybe I could make it a lifestyle change instead of a "diet".
I want to be fit, not gasping for air. I want my close to fit nicely without buying XL. I want to fit in with a group of people and not be "that" guy that is always overweight. I want to fit very comfortably in my seat on a plane.
That about sums it up for me.
