Xbox Kinect... Will you? Won't you....?
When the Xbox Kinect drops... will you get it? will you pass? why?
I personally am interested and would love to control my xbox without a controller since my wife and i use it very often with netflix and last.fm but am not sold on it yet. so i'd love to hear your thoughts!
You whippersnappers and your wireless technology don't know what a good system is. When I was your age, we used to have to play with our wired NES controllers up hill and through the snow both ways.
@luisibarra81: Young whippersnappers talking about their NES systems. In my day we had to build the water wheel, to turn the generator, to produce the electricity so that we could play with out Atari 2600 (that also had wired controllers) on a black and white TV in a white out.
Though, I will probably be getting the Kinect as we do have 2 and a half Xbox 360s and one son lives on it.
Seriously, you guys are kids.
I remember having to tape a transparency over the TV screen to play the original Magnavox Odyssey.
@durkzilla: You have me there. I have never heard of the Odyssey before.
(bows to the ancient one)
@durkzilla & @theoneill555: Reminds me of the old Commodore64 - I think that we've still got one in our family, somewhere, stashed in a basement or something... Dang, and all the old text-based games on 5 1/4" floppies... King's Quest was the best though!
@ddraj: I would wait. Just like the PS Move is still new and hasn't garnered a ton of support, Microsoft seems a bit overconfident in their still underwhelming vote of confidence from the developers. I agree with you wholeheartedly that being able to control the console for netflix and other streaming would be awesome. It really would, and it looks like the tech has significantly improved, both in hardware and software, from the not-as-popular-as-Sony-would-have-liked EyeToy, ushered in some eight years ago. I've been very impressed with what I've heard about the new interface and system intelligence...
HOWEVER - I'm also hesitant because I'm not impressed with the games. There are too many game reviewers who have said that this is limited, like the EyeToy was - only so you can do, waving your arms around without in-depth controls. Maybe a couple of fun games but are those few titles, and the "remote-less" control of the console, worth the cost of upgrading? I'd wait to see.
@arosiriak: Speaking of the old text based games, Adventure, with that nasty little dwarf following you around and throwing knives and axes at you, made me crazy. I just googled it today and finally found out how to use the magic word. Thanks for reminding me. :)
@theoneill555: Ah, yes. Adventure, from the golden years of text games. The rod scares the bird. xyzzy is a common password among newbs. Take the cage. Don't kill the dwarf. Mmmm, Telengard. There was another fun one.
@theoneill555 & @shrdlu: There was another one that was rather addicting and ridiculous - I remember liking it, but can't remember what it was... Wizardry Gold, I think it was. Oh, the good old days of text-based games, nonexistent graphic acceleration, and the simple cheat codes/passwords! Did anyone else ever play Quenzar's Caverns?
@shrdlu: You can still play a lot of those old games online:

i read about this in a history book... i think it's called thx for hijacking the thread yo o_O
@ddraj: Sorry. A couple of us did answer your question before we ran off into left field (gamers are easily side tracked unless they are playing and if they are playing, leave them alone, they get grumpy).
Thank heavens it is Friday. Now, I have the weekend to pull out my old DOS computer and retrieve the emerald and the oriental rug, run away from nasty little dwarfs that like to throw things at me, get lost in the maze and climb a beanstalk.
@ddraj: Yeah, sorry about that.
I'm saying "no" to kinect for at least a year.
After that the game library will have had a chance to be built up and the price will have dropped enough to reconsider.
@durkzilla: Online? Are you kidding me? Nearly every computer I own is running some kind of Unix or other. Adventure is on all of them. Heck, I even have the old curses based star trek on one of them. Ah, yes, the good old days...
@ddraj: Welcome to Deals dot Woot, home of the never ending segue.
