Reno BBQ, Blues and Brews festival! My husband and I have attended 10 years in a row.

We don't have that many, but there is one that I try to get to every year. It's called the Quadrangle (no idea why). Music, arts/crafts, a bbq contest, etc. It takes place downtown, right on the TX/AR state line.

I forgot to mention that any Wootizens who make it to the Wooden Boat Festival in Madisonville should look for the DesperadeauX and stop by to swap DW stories with me! Oh, and don't expect the Desperadeaux to look great. She's a work in progress.

I live in New Orleans, so I pretty much have to.

for music, pretty much all of the festivals put on by Planet Bluegrass. Telluride, RockyGrass, Folks, Mabon. Kinfolk was great this year.

I used to like going to a harvest fest down the road until I saw them pouring Kroger apple juice straight from the container and then turn around and tried to sell it to me as cider.

Like art festivals esp the Cherry Creek Art Fest. Maybe one day I will even be able to afford to buy something.at one of them.

I live in South Alabama and there is stuff going on all the time. It's rare we don't have something, but if we don't next door in Mississippi or the Pensacola FL area will have us covered.

@ryanpblyth: Neighbor! Should I also list Mardi Gras as a festival? A HUGE festival that goes on for WEEKS?

@mtm2: I probably drive near your house several times each year. Gulf Shores/Pensacola trips, and my high school BFF is in Mobile. If you miss us at Madisonville, we might be at the Biloxi show in May. It's not so much a festival, but we go every year. Haven't brought the boat yet. Maybe in 2013.

We have a lot of small towns in our mid-western area. The bigger festivals are the Harvest or Fall festivals. This time of year, there is one every weekend somewhere close. But we also have BBQ, bourbon and bluegrass that are woven into 4-5 local events, featuring one of those B's but including the others. Attendance is mandatory.

The two largest annual events are Thunder Over Louisville and Derby Week. Everybody attends some part of those.

The non-annual events? Every time we win a national basketball championship the populace goes crazy. See the news coverage of the riots this last year.

@belyndag -- Absolutely, Mardis Gras is a festival. If I can count Derby, you get Mardis Gras.

Now who has the Daytona 500 or Indy??

We do quite a few of the festivals around, especially things like parades and fireworks.

Yep. I do a couple county fairs, Balloon Festival, Oktoberfest, Garlic Fest.. and whatever else seems fun for a day!

You posted this question while I was at a local pumpkin festival with my wife and 2-year old.

We also go to Irish Fairs, Scottish Festivals, and Rennaisance Faires.

I think the nearest festival to me is the "Bikes, Blues and BBQ" festival in Fayetteville AR that ended today. I don't ever go because there are about 250,000 people there, and that's about 249,500 more than I care to be around, not to mention the 2 hour drive..

Whew! Spent ANOTHER day working to get the boat ready for the show. I think my hands will smell like Chlorox for the rest of my life! Unlike the situation in the original "Jaws," I want to tell DH, "I think we need a SMALLER boat!"

Once I get to the Boat Festival and dig into the goodies offered there it will all be worth it. I have to confess that I plan my days around the food booth offerings. Some things aren't to be missed, and some are new items I just have to try. One booth offers a creamy crawfish soup in a bread bowl, another has crispy fried eggplant slices smothered in seafood sauce. The list goes on. I save the bananas foster for the last day of the festival. Yummmm!

I think I just gained 5 pounds thinking about it all!

I try to go to the cultural festivals, mostly for the foods that are hard to find or get the rest if the year. The baklava at the Greek festival was simply amazing. :)
