Do you mean there were changes from the DVD extended versions to the bluray versions? Each review I have read indicated that the extended bluray versions would be the same. Now I'm worrying that I should have upgraded.

I do agree that there is a significant difference between the theatrical editions and extended. I love both, but the extended versions are great. You definitely get a whole different experience with them.

@figaroess: Yes, even more extended. For example the scene where Gandolf says "behold the Dwarf something Hall,(sorry can't recall right now) I don't want to give it away, you get a different perspective of the scene, as if before you could only see a bit and now much more, this scene also has the new music. There's much more, I think maybe a fan would appreciate the added scenes that was extended only by a few seconds.

The Blu-ray version in 1080p looks so much better because you can see the detail that was lost with regular DVD. The set is beautifully packaged, and contains the Costa Botas documentaries that are not included with the DVD Extended Edition sets.

@meems212: Crap. Now my wife will be unhappy when I tell her we HAVE to have the Bluray extended versions. We just finished re-watching the DVD extended versions not too long ago.

For reference, the run times given for the Extended DVDs vs the Extended Blu-ray versions:

FotR: 208 min - 228 min
TT: 223 min - 235 min
RotK: 250 min - 263 min

I didn't notice any new scenes, so I assume these are extensions of scenes already in the extended version.

I wasn't aware there were any differences between extended editions of Blu-Ray and DVD either. This review seems to suggest that there are an extra 20 minutes of Fan Club Credit Roll at the end of the movies though. Maybe this is what is accounting for the differences. http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviewshd/bdreviews061411.html
