Grand Canyon with Kids - Advice?
Early next month we're taking a family trip to Arizona, and will of course spend a day at the Grand Canyon. Having never been there before, I'm not sure what to expect/do/plan/etc. Our kids will be 5 and almost 8.
Thoughts?
sunscreen
camera
change of clothes
antibiotic lotion preferably with lidocaine
Well this should go without saying... but the signs often get ignored.
DO NOT GO OVER THE FENCED/ROPED OFF AREAS.
And certainly don't swing your children over them >.>
As they might develop a sudden fear of heights...
Or wait... that was experience at the Grand Canyon when I was 8.
(Japanese relatives who couldn't read English, thought it'd be fun)
PLENTY of water!
Comfortable shoes for walking.
Are you familiar with the plexiglass overlook ("skywalk")? It's in a different place than the usual viewing area, so if you want to do that you need to plan for it.

We didn't do it because a. I don't like heights and b. no cameras are allowed. To me, what's the point of paying a fee for an extra scenic view if you have to leave your camera behind? My organic memory isn't good enough, I need my photos to back up my vacation memories.
@moosezilla: Add hats. Binoculars are good, or a telephoto lens.
