Challenge: Do cheap Legos exist?
I give up. It seems all the Legos I find are pretty much the same price. Other than Ebay, is there anywhere to find a good price on Legos (especially those base plate things)? My kids are developing a bad Lego addiction, and feeding it my send us to the poorhouse! Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Have you checked at thrift stores? The baseplate you might have to spring for and then just pick up the pieces where you find them. Although I could have sworn we saw smaller sets at Wal*Mart and Target for around 10.00 at Christmas.
Depends, are you looking for cheap kits? Cheap Assortments? Cheap Grab Bags of whatever you can find?
Ebay is still going to be your best online bet though, thrift stores suggested by madam furry feet would be the best offline choice.
I've bought legos from www. shopgoodwill.com, just check the shipping before you bid. Each goodwill figures shipping differently.
@dhendricks4: Didn't know you could buy online from Goodwill.
@debbiedunlap: shhhhhhhh it's a secret.
Ya they are called MegaBlocks LMAO
How cheap is cheap? For new Legos, ToysRUs often offers a buy one, get one 1/2 off sale. Target also often tends to put onto clearance a majority of its Lego Christmas stock, right after Christmas (sorry, holidays already passed). A couple of years ago, I found the Lego Harry Potter Durmstrang set for $20 right after Christmas. What a deal! Also, check shop.lego.com periodically for sales. If you live in California or are planning a visit to Legoland in Carlsbad, every year around mid August (? I think, it's been a few year), Legoland holds a tent sale where they sell some older discontinued sets for good prices.
I checked the shopgoodwill.com site suggested by the above post and here's an auction posting for an 11 pound bulk lego box with a couple of those base plates that is ending tomorrow:

Holy cow! Thanks everyone. I've never heard of the goodwill site, but I'm registered and bidding now. Shipping is kind of high, but it still works out to a killer price on some of the lots. The Easter Bunny may be totin' some Legos this year. Yay.
here is the cheapest lego i could find
@wootvan: Well, she might be cheap, but I'll bet she's not easy.
@shrdlu: Absolutely right. My husband would (sadly) agree, too!
@wootvan: While I'm a big fan of the Dominatrix line, my kids would think she's some sort of superhero. And just maybe she is...She can jump tall men in a single bound, she's a bird, she's a pain... Wow, guess I just dated myself. And anyone else who got that, you're old, too.
And finally, check out yard sales and swap meets because sometimes you'll find them there.
What a find shopgoodwill.com is! A while back I was going to post a similar question to this related to American Girl products and decided against it because of the sheer impossibility of finding anything. But look at that, they actually do have some AG Dolls! Prices aren't exactly reasonable but better...

sigh, now that the entire woot world knows about shopgoodwill.com I will never be able to buy anything there, you lot will get it before me.
You can also try here:

It's like eBay, except only for Legos. If your OK with used sets, you can do really well.
Wow, just went to shopgoodwill.com. It's like ebay circa 1998.
If you go the thrift store route, be prepared to be disappointed. I frequent thrift stores and more often than not, you will find duplos or megabloks. That being said, I found 3 Harry Potter sets one time for $6 each and my boy has 5 base plates that I found there for $1 total.
Go to the lego.com/sales or lego.com and click SHOP, then scroll the items select on the right then click SALES. Sometimes there is alot on sale, right now there is not much.
the problem with shopgoodwill is that everything ships UPS - so 1 small item that could fit in an envelope gets about $8.00 shipping. (1 lb. rate, i guess)
and here's the cheapest lego i could find:
There are small Creator sets at Target for about $5 each.
