Did you notice your facebook email address addition/change?
Facebook created an email account for all their members. So, your new email address is now username@facebook.com. If someone sends an email to that address, it will be posted in your messages section of Facebook -- not your regular email inbox.
By the way, they didn't tell members about this change. They forced it upon you without your approval.
You can change what is shown to your friends by going to your settings and hiding that email address and then optionally showing your original email address.
My thinking is they did this to encourage people to go to their website to get their email and then see more of the advertisements which then makes them more money.
Yes, but thanks. I changed it yesterday.
Yea, I read an article on it yesterday...pretty crazy.
Some were saying that there's wasn't changed though...either it's a phased-in change (like they typically do with everything), or some people just couldn't figure it out...not sure which...probably somewhere in-between.
Yes, someone on my list posted a FB apocalypse (FaceBookalypse?) type of thing and I checked it.
Not that I care, since my email isn't shared anyway, nor have I been "timelined", so.....yeah, I'll be over here alone with my beer.
Also, to your last point, isn't that what Gmail does?
@j5: Gmail has a pop and smtp server so I never have to login through their website.
@cengland0: Yeah, I Gmail on my phone, so no worries. G+ however.....
I didn't even know I had a FB email.
I've had it for months and months. I don't use it, but it's been there for awhile. Just how long does it take them to roll something out? The last time they made changes, I switched over to using the UK version so I didn't have to put up with them. Still waiting for the dreaded Timeline to hit my account. (if it has, I can't tell and I refuse to take the chance of switching to the US version to check)
FB email has been around since they integrated chat into the messages.
I checked mine yesterday when the outrage blew up. My Facebook email exists (as does everyone's) but the email address I have listed as contact info on Facebook has not been changed or added to. But then, I don't have Timeline and it seems this might have happened just for those who do.
@lavikinga: I'm with you, I've had FB email since probably 2010. Seems like I had to activate it. I don't use my primary FB account often. I have a dummy account for all these crazy promotions - "Like" and get a free whatever!
Saw this yesterday, it's pretty freaking obnoxious.
A friend posted about it and I was able change mine. Facebook did have 'their' email address for me posted on my timeline. A big 'dislike' on that stunt.
Here is an article from Lifehacker detailing how to change it back:

my @facebook.com was the active email address for contact info, so I just disabled it and left them all disabled. FB friends can msg me on FB..
@hodakaroadtoad: That's exactly what I did too. the facebook address as the active one so I disabled that and hid my regular one too. If anyone wants to send me a message, they can use the built-in messaging features of Facebook.
I saw this mentioned on the news this morning, but completely forgot to hide it from my profile. Thanks for the reminder!
Thanks for the reminders!
Woot just blogged about this:
