Black Friday isn't worth it in my experience, at least not since refurb electronics have become so common. (Of course, I like sleeping late, especially on the day after I've had to spend more time preping and cooking food than I normally do in a week.)

My daughter (newly away at college this Fall) decided not to get a TV but rather to use her laptop (she has a 25' HDMI cable and HDMI out on the laptop so she can use other TVs if needed).

@baqui63: Yeah- right now I have a 22in HP monitor, but no HDMI.. I'm looking for something for my 360 and also for my N64 haha :D

@nathanurock: First of all: Thank you for complimenting my name, I appreciate the ego boost. Second: What's your budget? I picked up a brand-new LG 32" TV w/ 1080p for my dorm last year for $300.

Here's a better idea. Instead of spending money on a TV, spend it on upgrading from a 360 to a PS3 ;)

@nate800: hahah thanks! :D

my budget really depends on the type of TV.. I'm willing to spend less of course for a 720, but if the price is right for a 1080- I'd be willing to spend more to get that instead

haha and no- I will not be getting a ps3 ha :D

I wouldn't wait. Watch for a sale, you could do better and not get run over by those beautiful Walmart shoppers in any store LOL.

Depends on the size of your dorm-room. Bigger is not always better if you can't sit back enough from the screen to enjoy the benefit. E.G. - unless you have the world's largest dorm room, a 72" is not gonna work out well. Similarly, unless your dorm is violating local safety codes, smaller than 27" is probably going to be inferior. But between those two extremes??? hard to say.

That issue aside... like most folks a 32-42" is about as "multipurpose" as it gets. The past couple years, I have found that - for flat TV's in particular - Black Friday is worth it. Wal-Mart in particular almost always offers an outrageous deal on a flat-screen of some sort that day.

It can be worth it, as long as you are planning to go to black friday shopping at the crack of dawn and you aren't in an area infamous for people being trampled. I'm in a relatively rural area so the black friday shopping in my area isn't physically dangerous so the TV deals are relatively easy to accomplish (and they are good, usually equating to 30-50% off normal prices, I saw serveral 32" 720 and 1080 tvs for under 200 last year). If you are in bigger city areas I would just order online, like the offer above for under $200 is pretty good.
