giggle I never voted for any of them.

Often imitated, never duplicated.

BOC > Mystery Box

vote-for7vote-against

I still have high hopes for my box of knives!

vote-for9vote-against

like @hobbit, I too have never voted a Mystery Box.

@UncleFrog stole the words out of my mouth. ;)

vote-for48vote-against

How about this: You send me one of those flat rate boxes from the post office with the postage stuck on it and I will fill it up with all sorts of guaranteed fun crap that SOME ONE you know will be able to use.

OR

We could start a box that goes 'round the country. We make a list of mailing addresses for everyone who wants to play. First person puts stuff in a box and sends it to the next person. THAT person takes out stuff (all, part or nothing) replacing it with something else that is fun or represents their town or state. They send it to the next on the list. You can even take a photo of the crap you're sending or keeping and shove it in the box along with the new crap, I mean items.

Or

We could all enjoy an adult beverage and agree that any mystery boxes other than Woot's vacuum most mightily.

vote-for5vote-against

@lavikinga: I am all for the 2nd and 3rd ideas

vote-for6vote-against

Actually, that Chain-Mystery Box sounds like fun. I did something like that once with some friends except we bought underwear and sent it on. It was pretty humorous - would it be cute? Or gramma panties?! haha

vote-for6vote-against

@lavikinga: I'm actually down for #2 set it up, pm me for my address. I have something to put in the box! Let's do it!

vote-for4vote-against

BOC's are too much of a sometimes good/sometimes not-so-good thing. It's like having chocolate ice cream everyday. I am tired of it. I have been voting for them, the ones of interest but you are right. I won't vote anymore. And the Woot BOC does rule.

I like the chain boc idea.

vote-for6vote-against

@claudicina: We need to get more volunteers to play. It'll be like geo-caching by post.

vote-for2vote-against

I am totally up for the chain-mystery box too, as long as no one minds getting truly weird, stupid and/or useless things. Mostly stupid and useless. Possibly dusty. Tell me how to play!

vote-for5vote-against

I'm down for the Chain Mystery box too! that sounds like alot of fun...oh wait, wasn't this thread all about how pointless mystery boxes are to begin with?

vote-for5vote-against

@mtrlgrl: mmmmmmmmmmmmm chocolate ice cream..........that is bad?

vote-for4vote-against

@hobbit: You'd get sick of it after weeks of it every day. But you're right, it IS chocolate...

vote-for4vote-against

Every once in awhile, it's fun to have get a package full of surprise on the door step. I like having little things to look forward to, so, yep, I like mystery boxes. I won't buy just any, though, it depends on the caliber of product offered on the sites they're offered on. But, I admit, I still haven't been able to score a BOC.

vote-for5vote-against

I am in for either 2 or 3, that chain Mystery Box sounds like a great idea.

vote-for4vote-against

At least with the chain Mystery box, it has meaning, and costs only postage. These other boc's are really just full of crap.

vote-for7vote-against

I like the chain idea......but I am slow at mailing stuff....I warn you now.

vote-for2vote-against

I've never gotten a BoC from Woot that didn't have at least one thing I at least laughed at, if not used. Heck the bizarre ice bucket I got a few ago ended up being a major part of my last Christmas gift unveil (Christmas Day is a party for us) and I only had kept it since it was so bizarre of an item in the BoC.

MysteryBox's mysteryboxes....gotten two, both horrible. Sounds like you just got their most recent one, which in the email I got promised to be amazing?

vote-for2vote-against

@lavikinga: I've done a few "boxes around the country" in other forums I adminsitrate, and it was always a great success... with the only thing needed being moderator support with the threat of bannage to nudge the lazy ones into shipping out on time lol.

everyone got something fun, and public shaming for anyone who sent something ridiculously useless like a pencil eraser (not a good one)

vote-for0vote-against

I AM DOWN WITH THE ITEM # 2 ... HIT ME UP FOR ADDRESS .... AND I HAVE GOTTEN 4 OF THESE "BOC" AND I HAVE ENJOYED EVERY ONE OF THEM .... IF THERE AINT NOTHING I NEED I GIVE IT TO THE KIDS AND THEY LOVE THEM .....

vote-for5vote-against

I'm interested in the chain mystery box idea, sounds pretty cool. Almost like what the reddit community did for christmas last year (well, that actually was a secret santa...so secret you had no idea who you were giving/receiving from).

I'd say someone would have to set up a flow to it and it'd have to be limited to the more active/trusted members. Perhaps a join date and/or triangle color to determine if one can partake (no one wants people creating accounts to steal our chain mystery box).

count me in if it happens - I'd even be willing to help set it up with some people, I think it could be fun...we could also require either a woot purchase or a picture of a woot purchase must be included on all resendings to make it fun?

vote-for0vote-against

That will go well until someone takes a giant dump in the box, giggity :)

vote-for1vote-against

#2 Sounds really cool. I'd be down

vote-for3vote-against

@lavikinga: "We could all enjoy an adult beverage and agree that any mystery boxes other than Woot's vacuum most mightily. "

You sir have earned my admiration and respect for this little gem.

vote-for10vote-against

@lavikinga: I'm totally in for #2 - as long as no one gives my address to Newbie McAllCaps a few posts up.

"geo-caching by post" - I love that.

@mtrlgrl: Please don't send me ice cream in the chain mystery box. I'm afriad it would melt and get all over the 50" plasma TV that you were also going to include.

@snoopjedi: +1. xkcd links are always appreciated.

@butteredtoast: @lavikinga is a chick. A tall, nordic, baddass chick not to be trifled with. With pig tails.

vote-for2vote-against

I want in on the chain box o mystery!

vote-for4vote-against

@anotherhiggins: Braids, dude. Braids.

I have to make a trip to Pensacola (kills me to know my old stomping grounds are getting "slicked"), but should be able to keep in the loop.

You guys come up with the rules of who can play this reindeer game (join date, triangle trustiness or whatever you want to call the reps, etc.). We'll need guidelines of what NOT to put in the box (adult items or whatever) & a minimum effort we all expect to see put into it.

Figure all of this out & PM me with your mailing addresses. I'll compile the mailing list to be included in the box so you'll know who the next sucker to receive it should be. In all fairness, since @claudicina rogered up first for this adventure, I think he should go to the top of the list.

Since I came up with this not so bright idea, I'll start the first round of mailing if you guys don't mind. Once I mail the sucker off, I'll post a heads up in ATC. Ok guys, talk amongst yourselves! Get BUSY!

vote-for9vote-against

@lavikinga: I have a suggestion, if you are going to be the one with all the addresses. If people don't want to have everyone know their address, you could limit exposure by PMing the "send to" address of the next recipient instead of including a list. It would take some extra work, but there might be some poeple out there who don't want everyone to know who they are.

vote-for2vote-against

Sorry LaVikinga, I didn't realize I was such a Noob. How do you send pm's here, couldn't find a way to do it either here or on the official Woot page.

Thx

vote-for2vote-against

@lavikinga: first off, I don't think just anyone should be involved. I see a lot of folks who have jumed on the bandwagon of this just to get 'free' stuff people who I have never seen post before. I already know my thoughts are probably not going to be the most popular, but I just don't see why hangers on should benefit from something that the more active people came up with.

vote-for2vote-against

I LOVE the idea of a WOOT group/chain box. I think it would be so much fun.

vote-for4vote-against

@theoneill555: Yeah. That's an idea. Darn you stalkers out there ruining for the rest of us!

@jazcat: Wander over to Woot.com. Do a search on my screen name. Find something I've posted. Once it comes up, there will be a tiny envelope somewhere near my name. Click on it and rest rest should be self explanatory.

@hobbit: Like I said before, you guys are going to have to come up with a consensus of how this will work. If you are concerned about scammers, do we want to put them on a waiting list of some kind? As their name gets known or some one can voucher for them, they'd be in a holding pattern.

We could also just send a list of screen names out. The receiver could PM the next on the list for their mailing address, so only two people would be privy at any time to each other's mailing address.

vote-for3vote-against

@hobbit: Slow to mail? Silly Hobbit! The flat rate boxes can be picked up by your mailman for free. You can even print out your postage! The hard part will be finding stuff for the box.

vote-for2vote-against

@lavikinga: my mailman works in the dark ages and is only open until 5 on week days. I can get to the post office on Saturdays between 9 and noon.

I like the idea of a waiting list for unknown folks.

vote-for1vote-against

I would be in for this too. @twerp02 could vouch for me...actually this might be a way of getting rid of some of the stuff he leaves laying around the house...hhhmmmmmmmmmmmm

vote-for4vote-against

TBH, i'd like to see a vote down or unlike button added to the mix. There are quite a few deals that make it high on the popularity page which are utter carp deals. tattling isn't quite needed on these, just some way for us to indicate the deal posted isn't really a deal.

i've bit on one or two of the 'box o' mystere' but the contents have been utter (mod edit: profanity) to 'hmm, who can i give this to who might find it useful'.

i don't vote up non-woot BoC (aka the 'unknown/mystery box of dung')

vote-for4vote-against

"The hard part will be finding stuff for the box"

@lavikinga: Not if you have ever gotten a BOC from Woot!

vote-for2vote-against

I'd like in on this. Sounds like fun, way better than the Mystery Boxes put out by other sites.

vote-for6vote-against

@jazcat: Other than my woot lights which only half worked when unpacked, we've found a use for everything. Looking forward to the goofy Christmas snowman mp3 player speakers that came in the surprise BOC from earlier in the year that Deals sent out. Haven't a clue if it works or not. Even the "half bucket" is getting used.
Woot crap is better than every one elses.

Like others, I plan on filling this box with BOC items for which I couldn't find uses. Most of them were going into the White Elephant pile, but Christmas is pretty far away.

vote-for10vote-against

@lavikinga: Sorry, didn't know I was a stalker.

"sniffles and heads over to the fresh AtC"

vote-for1vote-against

I have crap. I totally have crap. how crappy can it be? Can I recycle crap from other non-woot mystery boxes? can it be perishable crap? (I don't really want perishable crap... just checking)

Are we going to go for the medium or large flat-rate boxes?

Should we require the box to be stuffed full? or a minimum "retail value" so as to sound like the non-good mystery boxes?

vote-for8vote-against

Fun, I have some great crappy items to pass on! Does that make any sense?

vote-for3vote-against

I think this sounds like a lot of fun. I know I haven't been around long, but I have tried to make some valuable contributions and purchases for that matter. Please let me know if I can join in too.

vote-for7vote-against

@theoneill555: Silly child, no! it's the REAL stalkers out there that have messed things up for the rest of us normal nellies.
