If you take the free super saver shipping option you definitely won't get it close to the release date. If you have Prime or pay for shipping you'll get a delivery date you can usually count on.

I remember back in the day you'd get a new release book delivered on the release date.

I have prime and preordered the second to last book too. It came on the release day for me. I also preordered the last book and expect it to be delivered on the release day. Of course I do have prime so maybe that changes things for me.

I have had the same experience as @gideonfrost. I have Prime and I pre-ordered two totally different books, both of which were delivered on the release day. I also live only a few miles from an Amazon warehouse as well, so some orders get to me even faster than the Prime shipping tells me they will.

Never had that problem because I wait for the release date. It's not high on my priority list to be the first to receive something/see a movie, etc.

I have prime and I've always received new releases on their release date. Makes me feel special.

I also preordered the last two books, I believe, and got them on the release date. I've done it with a handful of other books too, with no problems.

Amazon is focusing a lot of its resources on making shipping better and better these days. Even Prime's normal two day shipping arrives in one day half the time for me. I'm not too far out from one of their hubs though, so you may want to take that into account. I would say there's a good chance you'd get it on the release date even with only Super Saver, and there's not any reason at all to worry if you have Prime. Which you should.
