Who thinks the gold color on/off is helpful?
So what if it is still April and I promised not to complain about things that flicker? This is just too much. First, it's an ugly color and second, if that's not distraction and clutter, then what do you call it? And it is NOT helpful.

erm visual noise? I know you promised to not complain this month.
It isn't so bad between two pink bars. We have been discussing it here too, but of course that is way off the topic http://deals.woot.com/questions/details/4401be70-2c3b-4b55-ac4f-e41b1c3941be/bug-embedded-links-in-questions-no-longer-working#9
I vote NOT helpful. However, at least it's not part of the monochromatic color scheme like the rest of the site.
I am definitely against it. I think if they do insist on a highlighting, it should be a much more subtle color. Not that ugly yellow, if you can even call it yellow.
It's not helpful, makes it harder to read the stuff highlighted (in my opinion). If people were confused which bar to tattle/reply on, isn't that what the different colored gray/white bars are already there for? I'm also with @reemus, if you're going to have it, change the ugly color! (No offense kids.woot)
And my tags are all missing on this question: junk ugly annoying and I have already forgotten the other one.
Not a big fan myself. It won't work on mobile devices.
The only good thing about this is if you are showing something to someone who is behind you.
Edit: As I peruse the other threads, I find that I am NOT happy with this light up thing.
@sand4me: don't you love it when staff edits? (please read the sarcasm in this)
@hobbit: I have seen them edit titles and spelling, but not usually the tags. Maybe we can hope that the color change is temporary and meant to indicate that there is a woot-off going on? That would be an acceptable reason to have such a color change I guess. Maybe... If I could truly believe that it was temporary...
I had not looked at the Bug question to see that this conversation was already underway. Sorry for my lack of attention lately.
@sand4me: it doesn't matter we probably needed a new conversation about this ugly color anyway. Keep hoping it is just for the woot off.
It would be nice if it were some kind of settings option: people who wanted it could have it, people who don't can turn it off. Also it would be good if people could choose the color shading. Then again, I am not keeping it simple here. :)
@mtrlgrl: I would love to have some settings options on this site, and the ability to block people/things I don't want to see, and a few other things that could stand to be personalized. Keep making great suggestions. By the way, I am really enjoying the LiveMocha language lessons that I think you posted lots of weeks ago.
Ok this is really bothering me. I can't concentrate on other things because of the noise. Please for all things that are holy, MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!
Sorry to chime in too, but I have to agree... VERY distracting and unnecessary.
Do not like the yellow. I find myself scrolling on the right side of the page to avoid the yellow hi-lights showing up. I usually peruse during the day and would appreciate not bringing any attention to my screen by passers by in the office. Remember Keep It Simple Simon!
@sand4me: I'm glad you like the language lessons. I have slacked off, haven't been at the site in weeks. I will have to review the previous lesson. What language did you pick?
@sgoman5674: visual noise, visual noise bwahahahahah and someone thought the permanent tatte/reply button was visual noise. (oh wait we aren't complaining about that right now are we?)
@mtrlgrl: spanish and I have to admit to an atrocious accent. I have to go through the vocabulary several times and I finally submitted one for peer review. The responses were humbling. I can't seem to hear myself, so will have to keep practicing.
@hobbit: No, but April is almost over and my good intentions are crumbling... I can feel a complaint coming on.
@sand4me: :D I am giggling because I really don't see how this gold bar is different from the other thing.
@hobbit: You are so right! As usual! Gotta go work for awhile. Will check back later.
@sgoman5674: actually this DOES work on mobile devices, at least on mu iPhone. AND when it's highlighted yellow I can see the reply/tattle buttons that I can't otherwise see.
So I like it on my iPhone, but it's a little distracting on the main site.
Too bad there is not a browser plugin that lets you selectively disable certain CSS elements.
I'm not fond of the color, or the fact that it highlights in a most gaudy manner. But other than that, I like it just fine ;)
I would love it best if it disappeared completely!
@perkalicious11: Doesn't work on my BB Storm. I can't wait for Verizon to get the iPhone.
I've already said this elsewhere, but felt the need to share it twice:
This color is usually referred to in the vernacular as "baby (mod edit: profanity) yellow" (of course, it only stays this color until they move to solid food). It's just so considerate, with all the buggy stuff that shows up, that they felt we needed another eye exam, instead of (for example) something that would make the database more stable.
Dear @shawnmiller, was this your neighborhood improvement that you spoke of? Do. Not. Want.
@shrdlu: you mean the ugly yellow has a name!? I think it's quite an appropriate name.
You know, I'll bet by just scrolling down the page with the cursor in the wrong place, the flashing yellow would be enough to set off a seizure if one was prone to them.
Static "reply" links are removed because they're deemed "unnecessary visual noise", and now we have giant swaths of #F7DC86 flickering across our screens, and that's just peachy keen.
The site isn't as pleasant and visually appealing as it once was. Staff are getting universal disapproval for these style changes from the community, yet they press on.
Sigh.
they should have added a feature to this as well as highlighting. When clicking anywhere on the highlighted area of the question, follow the link to the comments.
I LOVE IT!
@chris12345: right and I don't recall anyone saying they couldn't figure out which comment bar they were on.
Maybe this is just me, but when I hover over a link and it turns red and the background turns yellow, it becomes really difficult to read what the text says. Which leads to a game of avoid-pointing-at-anything...
@flickre: We still don't like you. {Loads up the gun with slimy grimy fish guts}
THWACK
@lavikinga: I am starting to get them. Them and tics.
Here is another vote to axe (no le pew kind) the poop yellow. Pew Pew Pew, yellow, pew pew pew.
@theflounder: Remind me because I have completely forgotten even who s/he is and why we don't like her/him - referring to @flickre - and of course, since s/he actually stated that they liked this color, etc - love your name for it - I will now and forevermore ignore all comments generated by s/he.
If it were a bit darker, we could call it Grey Poupon?
I love the current color, it does not interfere at all with the text
@sgoman5674: careful your fiance will ban you from woot.
@bkindustries: Oh, go on with you. You just like it 'cause it's so close to the colors in desert cammies ;)
@sand4me: Please note the other two comments:

@hobbit: Well I am getting married on Sunday. So I will have to take my leave early.
She knows and understands my obsession with all things woot. I have even bought shirts for her.
@sgoman5674: Many blessings to you and your Love!
@sgoman5674: Congrats man, congrats.
@sgoman5674: Best wishes, and good fortune. Mazel tov.
@sgoman5674: Happiness and good fortune!
Oh dear.
In http://deals.woot.com/questions/details/e0fedcf4-ef8a-4888-89ed-e7bb1509f195 I suggested that merely hiding the letters in "tattle" or "reply" was too subtle, and making something more significant hidden was potentially the way to go. I'm tempted to suggest hiding keywords or website or both for deals, and maybe the time for comments, if one wants to go that route. An actual BUTTON for "reply" or a public denial that it is intended as a button would be welcome.
But the beige highlight adds overwhelming noise. While I'm sure I'd welcome it on a mobile device, it seems like it's only intended to show where the pointer is, and not intended to indicate additional functions. The additional functions ("tattle"/"reply") remain minimalist and difficult to notice.
Why doesn't "reply" looks like "add a comment"? They do the same thing! Do woot developers dislike rectangles?
(There is an improvement I've noticed just now: entering a comment isn't lagging like usual.)
Hmmm...wonder what I could have said to get my comment pulled on this thread?
I only said that the new Walmart's colors were the same marigold 'puke orange'--and it was the same color as the highway stripes that they just painted on our roads. Neither of which are very pleasant colors. Especially in large amounts.
Now, if you can mention other stores (Tiger, Newegg, etc.) here, then that couldn't be it. And if others called it '(mod edit: profanity) yellow' then presumably 'puke orange' isn't offensive enough either.
So...?
I am beginning to think that my woot strike is putting me on someone's '(mod edit: profanity) yellow' list.
@songdancer: I found your comment on the yellow color over on this thread: http://deals.woot.com/questions/details/4401be70-2c3b-4b55-ac4f-e41b1c3941be/bug-embedded-links-in-questions-no-longer-working?page=1&sort=oldest
