questionswhat's keeping you active here -- the community…

For the community. I was active here far before the incentives, as are many of the people here. Incentives are an appreciated gift, nothing more, and not a reason to stay.

vote-for45vote-against

I'm here for the community and the deals, however, Jumbowoot does help me feel like my time/activity is a little more worthwhile and also gives me a little extra incentive to be more active than I might otherwise be.

vote-for13vote-against

It's fun to look for good prices on stuff while talking to other users via comments. The incentives don't hurt, of course, but that's more like the cherry on the ice cream.

vote-for27vote-against

I wasn't even aware of the incentives when I started posting deals. Come for the deals, stay for the community. Incentives? Sure, why not.

vote-for9vote-against

While I want to believe that deals.woot community is mostly interested in posting good deals and revealing great hidden bargains, lately I feel like the deals submitted really are a lot of repeat junk. I'm no perfect deal submitter, so I'll go ahead a put that out there right now, but it seems like the quality of the deals we've seen even in the last month has been declining.

I suppose as you're here helping out longer, it numbs you to some of the less 'exciting' prices that we are all used to seeing as active members. But I digress: I was just speaking to this the other night with another deals.woot member and wonder if the incentives are actually 'hurting' the community by driving artificial activity and not-so-impressive deal submissions.

As a receiver of 2 or three of these awards now, It sure is nice to get a little reward for being active- but in the end I wonder if it's the best way to keep the site growing.

vote-for13vote-against

I love the community. I didn't even know about jumbowoot bonuses when I started here. Its also nice to know more people to shoot the breeze with when a wootoff killer comes up.

Those jumbwoot bonuses are nice though

vote-for7vote-against

I dunno, it's better than most forums.

vote-for7vote-against

I've been a deals lurker for a while, but after seeing Jumbowoot's incentives, I wanted in. Now, I think it's a bit of both. And the triangle.

vote-for4vote-against

@theracoon: Orange triangle doesn't know about incentives XD

Be active! If you are a black/purple triangle or complete certain tasks that you should be doing anyway, there may be a reward in it for you!

vote-for8vote-against

As others have said, I was active LONG before incentives, but they certainly help encourage me to try my best

vote-for13vote-against

Can't it be both?

But seriously, I've been visiting this site every day since launch, if anything I find myself spending more money as a result of the incentives.

vote-for5vote-against

All of it. I was posting before giveaways, it's a nice addition, but not my motivation.
I like the deals, the community, and the prizes.

vote-for11vote-against

Been here a lot longer than the "incentives" but they are greatly appreciated! @JUMBOWOOT ;)

vote-for3vote-against

@jrpigman: Muuuuwwwwahhhhhh! Jumbo's evil plan is working then.

vote-for5vote-against

I just started posting deals recently, but I really like finding deals myself. If I can share those deals with others, then I feel like the work I've done digging is worth more than just for my giggles.

vote-for4vote-against

When I started it was to share the deals I find with the community, now the competitor in me is to see how close to the top I can while still sharing deals. And as most have already stated the Jumbowoot incentives are a great added bonus. I also participate so I can find deals that others have posted on things I need or want.

vote-for5vote-against

Community first. Anyone who reads the forums over at shirt.woot knows how active I am over there too.

Jumbowoot is the nice bonus.

vote-for6vote-against

I started because I didn't want a white triangle, I stay because I want it to stay black (since my square isn't...YET!), oh and the deals that drain my bank account. The Jumbowoot incentives are super nice and I really appreciate them, but not why I stay.

vote-for4vote-against

Been around a lot longer than the incentives, but probably more active because of them.

vote-for3vote-against

Honestly - I've been a wooter for a looooong time, but never paid much attention to the community. But, I got a free crab shirt once and that's what inspired me to keep on truckin!

vote-for3vote-against

Yeah the deals mostly (which reminds me I have to get more cigars soon), though the people have a surprising amount of pull as well the longer the work day gets. The gifts from Jumbowoot are just icing on an already delicious cake, and make me feel kinda warm and fuzzy.

vote-for3vote-against

Both, but I was putting in entries before I even knew Jumbowoot existed.

vote-for-4vote-against

Neither. I rarely buy anything, don't do enough online shopping to find really good deals to share, and the community is interesting but not as engaging to me as shirt.woot or my social networking accounts.

I am playing strictly for the achievement hit. Conveniently, the best way to get that hit is sparing, high quality engagement.

vote-for3vote-against

Lots of good comments above.

I think part of my activity here is due to the fact that this is one of the few sites that allows social interaction that my company doesn't block!

vote-for5vote-against

Sorry to say this, I don't consider an online shopping site as a "community". Woot is online to sell stuff, and we are online to buy stuff. All the forums, coupons etc. are just here to ensure that we return as consumers.

vote-for2vote-against

BOTH! The word "or" limits me to either "this one OR that one". I want it ALL!! ;->

vote-for3vote-against

I love deal hunting and Woot appeals to that part of me. Also getting responses that said "thank you", "I've been looking for this" or "good find, job" is what spured me to look for more deals. Receiving a gift from @jumbowoot, well, just made it even better

vote-for2vote-against

same thing as craigslist and ebay and others, deal hunting.

vote-for2vote-against

Definitely the community and the deals. I never see the incentives until they are expired, even though I've whitelisted jumbowoot. I just stink at checking my email. There is something unique about Wolters though. By and large, you all are pretty awesome.

vote-for-2vote-against

it used to be for the rankings, but I've given up on how to figure out the scoring system.

vote-for2vote-against

Misterron (the old fart) and I are here for all the lovely ladies! Don't tell Losparkz, though.

vote-for3vote-against

For the community, mostly. Actually, I keep forgetting to use the codes from Jumbowoot.. gotta write them down somewhere. :)

vote-for1vote-against

I loev yu guys.

I lvoe tis beer to.

vote-for2vote-against

i love the gifts, but dont expect them, i do it because i feel if people take the time to find so many good deals i can look for a few once in awhile too

vote-for1vote-against

I was an avid deal hunter on other sites before woot opened deals.woot and a big fan of woot. For a long time I just watched deals and posted a few here and there. Then came the Woot out of a few months ago. When I posted a question that became the top question of the day I believe, and a deal that made it to the twitter feed. Part of me was amazed to think that something I posted was tweeted out to all those people. That day launched me from 92 to 99 and even in to the leaderboard.

The Coupons are just icing on the cake!

vote-for2vote-against

I wouldn't want to give @jumbowoot any reason to stop with the coupons, so I'll go with the coupons. Yeah. Definitely the coupons.

(Of course, if he does stop with the coupons, then I guess I'll have to change my answer to the community.)

vote-for1vote-against

I was active here before I had ever heard of or recieved an incentive. Was really pretty surprised when I got one. Certainly enjoy them, but I'd be here anyway.

vote-for3vote-against

The community, but I do appreciate the coupons from @jumbowoot. I'd suggest that the coupons continue, but switch up what they're for every time. Keep people guessing. That should encourage more overall usage and less spam quality posting of deals as people won't know what you're looking at this month.

vote-for1vote-against

@dealseekerdude:

Look up the difference between "inclusive or" and "exclusive or."

vote-for1vote-against

@javajnkie:

Did you just call me a Wolter?

I'm not sure how I feel about that.

vote-for1vote-against

What keeps me here is the awesome awesome fact that any household commodity that I may be in need of such as batteries and light bulbs will be cheaper here than anywhere else, or I can sit and wait on them to get a good deal because they are bound to pop up. I also like it cause when I go to make a splurge purchase, I can get a very nice splurge for a very good price as well.
