What did you think of the State of the Union address?
At the risk of getting downvoted in to oblivion, did anyone watch? If so What did you think?

TJ;DW — Too jaded; didn't watch.
I wasn't really paying attention. I only watch it for the commercials anyway.
Who won?
my coworkers and I watched it with MUTE ON and spent our boredom time voicing over...
I watched. He really is a great speaker.
I'll still be pleasantly surprised if anything changes.
Please make it stop.
Sounds like a great deal.
my liberal friends thought it was amazing, my conservative friends thought it was a crappy campaign speech, me and a few others didn't watch because I can't afford a new tv and every time I watch that man speak publicly I want to throw things at the tv.
Didn't watch it. don't appreciate all the promises and no budget by the Senate or the President in almost three years!
@kamikazeken: That explains what happened to your old TV! But it leaves me wondering, how do you feel when he speaks privately?
He is a great speaker, to bad what comes out of his mouth is a lot of Bull Sh*t. Newt Gingrich has a better chance of turning the USA around than any one. Obama needs to go back to Chicago and do what ever he does when he is not screwing up America.
Yep. I always laugh when they applaud awkwardly, so I am laughing all the way through it. Obama made some good points about the future of high-tech, skilled jobs in America and addressing economic inequality. I have no idea how he is going to implement his special "Trade Enforcement Unit", but it sounds really cool.
My favorite part was when he called out US-based MNCs and state that we should give them a flat tax instead of letting all that unfettered profit money travel from our pockets to their offshore bank accounts. He worded it in such a way to force Boehner into applauding.
I just can't watch these. When baby bush spoke, I cringed at his 2nd grade speaking capability and his right wing garbage. With Obama, I want so badly to hear that he'll do what he promised, that he'll take his balls and do something with them instead of giving in to the republicans that want to (and are) destroying the middle class.
I hope the president follows through on some of his promises, but I'll be shocked, yet pleased, if he does.
@sarkon: Newt, like Bush, will get things done. War, War, War, War, War, Profit, Profit, War, Oil, Drill, War, Profit, War, Profit, Money, Oil, Clean Coal, War, Profit, Profit, War, War.....
You know those cartoons where the dog keeps saying food, sleep, pee, poop, play, food, food, sleep, sleep, play, pee, etc... And the cat talks about getting in the liqueur cabinet, putting obstacles around so it's owner trips, sleeping where they shouldn't, etc..
Newt is the cat, although not cute. He sit around thinking of ways to destroy and harm and figures out how to accomplish them.
Getting things done doesn't mean they are good.
I enjoyed the speech tonight. Obama is a very good orator and the message he delivered jibes with much of the difficulties I am facing with my family right now. I hope some of his proposals get some traction and the GOP stops waging war against the middle class to give more money to the rich.
I can never stand to watch them myself, I always read the transcript of the State of the Union and the opposition response. I find that reading them both helps cut out any great charisma (or lack thereof) that either side has and helps me delve into what exactly they're saying more easily.
Personal opinion aside, I value the ideas being conveyed a lot more than any oratory skills or pageantry. I suppose I'd be just as happy if the US went back to the pre-Wilson era State of the Union addresses, which were written and delivered to Congress and printed instead of delivered.
I have been a voter for decades and am accustomed to the language of politics. I don't like it though. Just tell me the real truth of your platform and what I can really expect from you (politician). No, I'm not naive, just remembering how it used to be.
State of the Union VS Cupcake Wars? Come on, there is no contest there!
I thought his speech was telling of what is wrong and what we could do to fix it. The conservatives feed on the ignorance of the populus and peg him as errant every chance time he tries to help the middle class. No matter what Obama says, the poison that spills from the GOP will continue to divide and deminish the true voice of the people. Last night better illustrated for me why it'll be impossible to get anything done this year. People attack this administration not realizing that Obama has actually kept almost all of his Promises.
As a veteran, I feel inclined to remind everyone the reason I went to war was to maintain everyone's rights to be informed and vote. So I get a bit perturbed by the fact that so many people waste their votes on Republicans because of misinformation and misdirection, when I still walk around with the scars I received while in Iraq due to the lies received from some the same GOPers still around from the last administration.
Side note, I hate the ad hominem attacks that come from both sides... hopefully someday we'll mature enough to attack ideas and not make personal attacks on one another.
Pipe dream, I know, I know, but it helps keep us a bit more civil toward one another.
It's funny to me that some of you tout the GOP as the devil while claiming the Dems as the only true saviors of the middle class and vice versa. If you can't see that having a bunch of millionaires spend billions of dollars to be in charge of our every day lives is a bit odd and not what was intended for this country then you truly are a political misfit. I don't know what the answer is, but the fact that you believe anything that a person in power says to you while trying to attain more power is shocking. For as intelligent and witty as you all try to be it blows my mind that you can sit there and defend the actions of either side. Just my two cents. And I know, the GOP wants to round up all the minorities and have them fight wars for the rich, while the Dems want to chop up the rich and feed them to the socialist masses. I understand your well thought out viewpoints.
I loved the fact that I didn't watch it.
Summary: None of this is my fault. My evil predecessor screwed up my life, and yours too. We can have a brave new world. Let me take care of you. I am angry over what has happened and I do have balls... see how mad I am... and how righteously angry for your sakes? This guy is as pathetic as they come... and the flapping and bobbing circus seals of our congressman and women was the perfect highlight for this farcical display.
Just another campaign speech by a failed president, and we thought Jimmy carter was the worst ever, this socialist is trying to destroy this Country!
One man monologue for an hour and a half or however long, only to be constantly interrupted by clapping?
Sounds like poor television to me. Should be cancelled.
@wootbretz: They let Jay Leno have his job back!
Note to self (and ironically posted publicly): Do not respond to political questions on Deals.Woot. About as futile as trying to dig a hole in the ocean.
