I have a set of Altec Lansing speakers that came with my in-laws' Dell computer that are nice, but I can't find them online to link you (they're a few years old by now). But it's a 5.1 set (4 speakers & a powered sub) and they have TONS of cable on them. So much in fact that, since my desk is kind of in the middle of my room, I disconnected the two back speakers because I had cables running everywhere & nowhere to really hide them.

Also maybe try a set of Logitech speakers? I have a set of those as well and they have longer cables. Are you looking for 2.1 (2 speakers and a sub) or 5.1?

Try looking here maybe?

Good place to find links to different sets of speakers, compare prices, get reviews, etc?

@giggleloop: Thanks for the info! I just went to Wal-e-world to see about some cheap ones. Just 2.0 speakers. It's for a client who values form over function.

@reemus: The problem with extension cables (I need power & the 3.5mm extension) is the area between desk and where the computer is. Extensions just don't work. My only option, maybe is USB powered speakers & USB extension.

@rlapid2112: What about speakers that plug into the wall? Then you would only need teh 3.5mm plug from the computer which could be accomplished by means of an extension.

@reemus: I wish I could just plug into the wall. The desk is in the middle of the office with no power or anything near the desk. If the client would have purchased a monitor with built-in speakers, this question would never have been posted.

@rlapid2112: How are the monitor and computer powered if there's no power near the desk?

@reemus: One of those 3-prong socket computer extension cables. It fits entirely inside the cable hider. Can't fit 2 unless they are different lengths. Problem is, not many speakers without some type of power transformer.

Speakers, generally do not have a transformer inside (small 2.0 speakers) so don't run directly off 120VAC.
