Have you finished your taxes?
I'm done, but won't be filing the part I owe until the last minute. Anyone else finished this festival of frustration? If not, are you waiting until the last minute, or just haven't gotten to it yet?
Been workin' on them, almost done...
Done about a month ago. But, I prepare taxes professionally so I'll be doing a bunch more.
Still procrastinating... Have not started... But, I have cleared my schedule for the 14th...
I did mine the other day. It's odd how some years I'm right on top of it and others I wait until the last moment.
@lpgstock: Good thing they're not due until the 17th. Plenty of time. :)
Since I really hate doing taxes, I try to get them over with as soon as possible. That way I can file away the paperwork (or printouts from on-line) instead of shuffling them around one spot to another while dreading the actual Dirty Deed. So - done in January, filed online, the pain already forgotten about. (And, yes, I am the "rip off the bandage quickly" type.)
Hoping to start today, but that's gonna cut into my Wooting!
Yes and no. I "finished" them and submitted my return a week ago, but 2 days later got an email from my broker to let me know they screwed up my 1099 and now I have to send an amendment.
Woot could be really mean and set a two day woot off to begin on the 14th.
Haven't even started.
Wife made sure we were done last month, and already got our return and spent most of it.
Filed and paid :> Local has yet to cash the check yet..
I finished my taxes on January 10th!
@johnnys13: I did that one year...then got paperwork that I forgot about and had to file an amendment. :/ Now I wait until at least the middle of February to file.
I got them done for free a couple of weeks ago at my local VITA clinic, if you have one in your area, it's a great service. I used it last year when every online service told me I was going to owe $500+, took it to a VITA clinic near me and they told me I had done a few things wrong and there were a couple of extra benefits I could claim to get me $500+ back from the gubment.
Just finished putting stuff together to go to the accountant. Still need forms that have not come in yet. Perhaps today, because some forms do not need to be sent until deadline of March 15. The broker statement also always shows a caveat that some forms will be sent "later", and they are usually spot on. I hate to have to wait for all this stuff. But I would hate more to have to do an amended return after having paid for the first one!
I finished mine and filed last weekend. A little more complicated this year due to my gas lease finally paying royalties, but I think I got that all reported correctly.
Nice to have them completed.
I normally try to get everything together and meet with my accountant in mid-March; I then file about two weeks after that.
The last two years, my daughter has needed my tax info as early as possible for the FAFSA (financial aid application) and I've started things earlier. This year I efiled on February 15 and received my Federal refund about two weeks ago. Still nothing from NY State though.
Like two months ago.
I've been making a pile of necessary papers and we have the Turbo Tax disc, but that's it so far. Every year I keep saying I'll do better next year. And every year I don't. So this year I resolve to quit saying I'll do better! Lowered expectations are easier to meet!
Done a while ago - and about 200 other people's as well, since I'm a paid preparer. Now we get the clients with brokerage statements, the trusts, and those who just can't seem to pull their documents together in a timely manner (and fortunately, some of those who expect to owe, but are smart enough to still file on time, rather than ignore the problem).
Did mine in early Feb, but we were getting a refund, not paying in.
Yep, and already received refunds from state and fed about 3 weeks ago.
Taxes? What are taxes?
Seriously, I do them early because I know I'll procastinate if I don't (and there are some people that are worth avoiding trouble with more than the others. The government is one group to avoid trouble with).
@johnnys13: how the heck did you do that? I didn't even get all of my required tax papers until almost the end of february.
there seems to be a common thread here, people with returns file early, people who have to pay file late. I haven't filed before the 15th in several years.
It absolutely sucks to know you paid taxes all year, then in april you have to give the government even more of your money. Some people who don't even work get money back, I don't get it. I can't believe this is capitalism.
For the first time ever I paid somebody to do my taxes. I moved to a new state (that has state income taxes), retired from the military, changed jobs, and rented my old house. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but it was (I think) worth it. He saved me at least double what I paid him.
Finished 2009 in Feb, got 2010 done this week and that leaves enough time to get 2011 done before the 15th.
Getting out of the rut this year, (it was a death in the family rut...I got audited and actually won!! )
Father in law works for H&R block... I get my taxes done for free through him, and he finds EVERYTHING we can deduct. I've already got my money back, and spent it.
