Should I bring in personal hardware to use in the office?
My office is, well, technologically impaired. We still use old keyboards, 20 year old phones, and even ball mice. I've personally asked to upgrade, but they say if they upgrade one, they upgrade everyone. What does the DW population think about bringing in my own stuff to use at work, since they clearly won't?

It really depends on the policies at your office. As long as there are not policies against it I say go for it.
No policies really. They are just oblivious to it all!
I bring in my own mouse, mousepad and soon probably keyboard.
I don't see a problem with it.
I work for local government and we are way behind on everything. We are not allowed to attach anything to our office computers or the servers but we are allowed to bring in separate devices. I would go stir crazy without my personal laptop, which not only provides entertainment during downtime, but also has features and programs and up to date software that I can't get at work but need for my job.
I work for a large credit union; our equipment isn't old at all, but it's already pretty well outdated. I bring in my own cordless, wireless mouse, which makes my workload easier. Can't do much at all with anything else in the place, unfortunately.
Depends how much you want a decent keyboard, versus how much you are willing to stand on principle. If you bring in your own (good) stuff you run the risk it will be stolen or broken, then you are SOL. You are also encouraging/allowing the powers that be to provide crappy gear, in that they are half expecting that the workers are going to upgrade on their own. Or you can continue with the crapola stuff and hope they improve. One tip: start complaining of wrist and hand pain. That may get their attention. I'm in the business of treating Workers Comp patients: one good RSI claim will more than pay for good mice for the entire office.
If you do bring in personal hardware, be sure to consider it a donation to your company should you ever leave. It would a difficult thing in most workplaces to explain to security that the computer stuff you are trying to take with you actually belongs to you.
I swore I'd never do anything like that... as I type on the chiclet keyboard I bought at Newegg and click with the Microsoft Mobile Mouse 4000 from Amazon.
Sigh.
@wilfbrim: Thats the problem. I feel like if I do bring my own stuff in I'm facilitating them...
I brought in a Microsoft Natural Keyboard. My wife works in a different office and they ordered one for her.
The keyboards that were in the contract for these computers is barely a keyboard - looks like a cheap toy.
I type all day, and if I couldn't bring one in, I'd file a worker's compensation claim for carpal tunnel and demand a keyboard.
