18/10 Flatware - Anyone Know Of A Deal / What's The Right Price Point?
I'm in the market for a nice set of 18/10 flatware. I really really wished I'd pull the trigger on the set on Home Woot in January. I saw it in the morning and waited until I got to work to really look into it and it was sold out by the time I got to it. It's honestly my single biggest Woot regret. Heh.
I'm in the market for 8-12 settings. 8 would likely be all I'd need but 12 would be nice to have some spares and a little bit of leeway. Not sure if it trumps my penny pinching enough to spend the extra. :)
That said, I've been nosing around for a set since then. My question is twofold:
1) Anyone know of any particularly good deals right now for a set you think is worth jumping on?
2) What do you all think is the right price point to pull the trigger on a set? Obviously, I wouldn't be here if I wasn't a deal hound that hates paying regular price for anything. What price would make you pull the trigger?
In case anyone is still looking, I got this set today:
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=14084908&RN=505&
$79.99 for 18/10 service for 8. Then use the 20% coupons that either come in the mail all the time, you get for signing up to their email blasts, or signing up your cell phone number (heck no lol). $67.83 out the door. :-)
Just in case you haven't seen it, there's a set on sellout.woot today. :-)

They're not my cup of tea though. A little too "girly" for me. lol
Sometimes a piece will get lost but occasionally you will find an extra piece. Maybe it rematerialized from someone else's set. I just don't know where it came from. However, the company went out of business years ago so I need to buy a new set, or two, myself.
@pooflady: I bought 2 sets when I purchased my last flatware 10 years ago. I figured that way I'd have replacement pieces when needed. I found that spare set when moving 2 years ago and was able to replenish my stock of spoons and forks. =D
@pooflady: Keep on blaming the kids -- all's fair in love and routine household loss.
Get the 12 piece set. Take it from a senior citizen. For years we blamed our kids for throwing away pieces of silverware when they cleared their plates off the table. Unfortunately, the kids have been gone for years and we're still losing them occasionally.
@bingo969: I used to get them all the time.... now I only see $5 off ones. :-(
On a random note... awwww someone took out my wootregret tag. Heh. It was my big woot regret! :)
@justagigilo85: Thansk for the tip. Not sold on that pattern though it's by no means ugly or anything. I may keep an eye out for one of those 20% coupons they always have out there and check them out in person.
I'm looking for a set as well. And I've been kicking myself over that previous Woot deal too!
Keep in mind that 18/8 and 18/10 are actually the same thing. A small amount of deception/marketing done there.
@justagigilo85 That's the EXACT set we got for our wedding. I completely agree and would totally recommend this set.
We also went to Macy's and they had a ton of flatware on sale, so I would recommend checking them out. Good luck!
Just got this from my wedding registry:

Looks great and it has a great weight in your hand. I love them.
Costco has a very good price for a 46-piece, 8 place setting, Reed and Barton McKenna 18/10 flatware set at $74.99.
Keep looking and be patient. Something similar will come up (either on Woot or somewhere posted here). You are educated and know you want 18/10. There are plenty of flatwear deals on 18/0 and other junk: there aren't nearly as many deals on the stuff you really want.
If you can, get a 12 place setting. I don't know what happens to flatwear, but there is some kind of crazy evaporation going on: over stuff disappears from the drawer. Get more than you need.
