personally, i like

where can you get it? from a bag of crap of course!

you can also make yourself a cool laser using a metal slinky and a cardboard tube.

I just keep this statue of The Brain on my desk and we have frequent staring contests: http://www.landlcollectables.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/1003446

And I'm not allowed to have any sharp objects. sigh

FINALLY a question I can answer!

I have a levitating globe, USB fish thingy, buckyballs, old school metal slinky, 2 stress balls, a puzzle box, small metal japanese puzzle, tavern puzzle (I actually have several of these and switch them out periodically). Also have a magnetic procrastination dartboard. Naturally there are also 5 woot monkey's around here as well.

I work out of my home, but if I was in a cube farm I would have bought a USB missile launcher years ago.

I've been tempted to get a fish for my cube, but I don't think the powers that be would like the water being around all the fancy electronics. :(

I had a lot of robot insects, 3 pewter wizards, 2 dragons, and a statue of Lord Ganesha (the Remover of Obstacles) from an Indian friend.

A Newton's Cradle, of course.

I had an ecosphere on my desk for many years, before a HVAC screwup killed it. Now, I keep a nerf gun and a sound effect box, next to my schrodinger's cat box :)

Or one of these:

I've wanted one for quite a while.

@okham: the fact that it is also a stress ball delighted me :D

@inkycatz: Yeah, I thought it would be a good addition for my wife's desk :)

@elforman: Place him below the monitor and it looks like you're REALLY busy!

My cube is lined with screaming monkeys.

@gatzby: well...it sounds like a laser at least.

get one of those metal slinkys (not the full size one). take 3-4 of the loops and hang them off the end of a cardboard tube and let the slinky dangle. tap the dangling end of the slinky and be rewarded with pew pew laser sounds!

I have all sorts of fun with my monster finger puppet. I have the orange one with spikes: www.amazon.com/Monster-Finger-Puppets-Variety-8/dp/B000HJKI24/

My Matchbox F-16 also gets a lot of use, but that's mostly because I design airplanes and it's easier to visual maneuvers when you've got something that looks like an airplane. Also, sometimes, it plays like it's going to fire it's missiles at the little Matchbox car that also lives in my cube. My cheap little rubber cobra looks awfully cute wearing the red ribbon in a bow around his neck. He likes to slither around my jar full of pencils and sometimes play with my cheap plastic dinosaurs that move about my monitor and desk. Most of my toys are cheap cast-offs from my nephews or other little people in my life. Allows me to save my money for the more expensive airplane models that are more for looking at than for playing with.

1. Potted plants. You water them, spray them, dote on them. Love them. They are, essentially, glacially-slow-moving pets.

2. Metal Slinky Jr. Every Target I've been in has these in the $1 aisle, so I have a drawer full of them. Possibilities are endless.

3. If you can get away with it, make a binder-clip iphone stand and play classical quietly. Without it, I might go crazy.

My desk at work has 1) a set of buckyballs 2) a couple squishy koosh ball type toys that came in a bag of crap and 3) a slinky.

i second @dupedyetagain. there's nothing more satisfying than a plant. especially if it means you get to hang all manner of crap off its feeble branches.

also: fertility idols.

aw, just read the part about no projectiles

http://squishable.com/, the mini squishables in a cube farm are amazing. Stress relieving soft balls of awesome that are also kinda adorable. I've had up to 5 in my cube, but I've cut back to just a mini Cthulhu with a pair of theater 3d glasses on.
