Wow, just found out she died from this post. Has the show explained what happens to ms krabbabel?

@flamemonkey: I have only heard that she will not be replaced, as in the character of Edna will be written out of the show rather than having another actor provide the voice. The Simpsons never tried to continue Lionel Hutz after Phil Hartmann died, so I'm sure Edna K will be treated with similar reverence. HAA!

The creators said right away that Mrs. Krabappel would be retired, though I am now seeing that they won't reveal how she will leave. I think having the character retire from teaching and thus leave the show would be a pretty good way to handle it.

Bart will finally pass 4th grade and move on to 5th.

She will have met the man of her dreams online and will run off with him. At the end of the episode, he will be revealed to be Gordie Howe.

They've also said they have a year of shows already in the can so we won't be seeing the end of her character for quite some time.

Bring in Sideshow Bob to be Bart's new teacher

Did I miss something because last episode I saw, she was married to Ned Flanders. Not only does the show have to deal with the teacher aspect but also the wife of the Simpsons' neighbor. It does not seem to be as cut and dry as she retires from teaching or Bart moves to another grade.
