RJD2, A Tribe Called Quest, Fela Kuti and Chromeo have great songs for working out to. They all have up-beat rhythms, which help to keep a good pace. Good luck!

Depends on what kind of exercise she does. I listen to Girl Talk quite a bit while lifting but it doesn't work quite so well for cardio.

You could also use Pandora and just put in a song she likes and let Pandora build a playlist around it. That has worked surprisingly well for me in the past.

As important as the songs are the order they're in, especially if you're running, IMO. I can get a real boost from a song if I'm dragging towards the end of a long run, so for my longer (double digit miles) runs, I've set up playlists with good fast paced stuff towards the end, where I should be at about the last 1.5-2 miles. I track my runs with a Garmin GPS watch and generally the last couple of miles are faster than the preceding couple of miles.

The playlist should start with songs of a slow to medium tempo and build up to faster paced songs by the end of the playlist.

Check out the Billboard.com weekly list for Dance/Club:

http://www.billboard.com/charts/dance-club-play-songs#/charts/dance-club-play-songs

Some great artists: Robyn, Reina, Ian Van Dahl, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Sozzi, Rihanna, even Lady Gaga. These songs are upbeat and featured in a lot of TV commercials, talk shows, etc. Most people hear these songs but never know who the artists are unless they frequent dance clubs. If you go to a workout class, they generally use this type of music.

You can also look on Amazon under Dance & DJ.

Too bad I can't send you one of my playlists!

Edit: I look at the charts then go to Amazon and listen to it. There's usually multiple versions of each song. You may want the songs with (Radio Edit) in the title, they're shorter than some of the club mixes.

She Moves In Her Own Way by the Kooks
Good Days Bad Days by the Kaiser Chiefs

In the Congo by the Bongos
A Whole Lot Better by Brendan Benson
Close To Me by the Cure
Too Fake by Hockey
Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
Mayhem by Imelda May

the first panic at the disco album and girl talk

Arash (Bollywood style rap/hip-hop) - Music is My Language
Pitbull (Latin style rap/hip-hop/dance) Oye
Shakira (Latin style hip-hop/dance) Rabiosa

These are for variation in the typical list of good workout tunes.

And if you go by the latest workout advice, interval training is the best (slow song, fast song, slow song, fast song) Interval pace burns more calories and is better for the heart. But this also depends on her workout and what she's doing. But if she's a runner, then you'd have to go by the recommended advice for that.

@fenriq: I find that Girl Talk gets my run really out of pace... lifting weights it is great but you are right about the cardio it changes my pace too often..

For cardio I tend to listen to American Head Charge ... GREAT to run to..

@mommyleah: Don't apologize for that. Even after all these years that stuff still makes me smile. Reminds me of my college days. It was awesome back then now it's just funny and makes me laugh out loud. Oh yes lets see how tall I can tease my bangs.
