If you had an unlimited amount of money to renovate/build one room on your home, what would it be?
Only one room. An add on or completely demolish one room and start over. And you'd be responsible for any future financial upkeep, like a higher utility bill, higher property taxes, etc.
I'd have a media room built, with seating for eight (nothing that reclines, no sleeping in the media room!) and I'd have solar panels as a condition of the build because electricity is so expensive here.
I'd have a bowling alley built in a basement, under my basement. With all the lights, music, tables, accessories, and everything. Ahh... where's that lottery ticket commodog was talking about?
I'd make an arcade room, with classic arcade cabinets and pinball machines.
And I'd have a long extension cord to tap into your solar power as a condition of the build since power is expensive here too.
A walkout basement entertainment space complete with a SwimSpa off to one alcove space with a windowed ceiling, dry sauna, pool table, open style home theater, bar with a hidden door for the cellar/humidor and poker table.
Game room with a half dozen pinball machines (Addams Family, Pinbot, Funhouse, Twilight Zone & a couple of others... maybe Earthshaker & Theatre of Magic) plus a regulation pool table and a custom arcade cabinet with MAME emulators & roms installed. And a phone to call my lawyer once my wife serves me with divorce papers for never leaving that room.
pretty much exactly what you described with reclining ... and it would be projector with surround sound>
I want a THEATRE, complete w/ stadium seating! I've been telling DH for years we need a BIGGGGGGG house! lol
@wingnutzero: I would go with the new MEME Pinball cabinets that have the same look/feel but digital screens just due to the hassle of repairs of normal pinball machines. That and there is only like 1 company anymore that even makes pinball replacement parts.
As for me I would finish my 1k sq ft. basement into my man cave. Which would have a full bar (the works with 3 taps/20ft long bar top/swivel mounted padded bar stools/4 tier liquor-stand at the back in front of a mirror-panel w/ LED lights/4 KEG taps/3 Stainless Steel Utility sinks/3 Wunder Bar Guns. Full size 8-person green-felt top Vegas Style Octagonal Poker Table w/ chairs. 65'' Samsung Plasma 1080p for football/gaming. Finish full bath w/ upright shower. Custom Arcade MEME Cabinet & Pinball MEME Cabinet and that is all in a nut shell!
(The funny thing is I already plan on doing all of the above mentioned.. it's just going to take me a year)
I'd build an entire room, just for my shoes...
(name that movie! :) )
Unlimited money you say? Let me see........
I'd expand my room to hold billions and billions of dollars then make it fireproof, floodproof, tornado-proof, hurricane-proof, volcano-proof, and nuclear apocalypse-proof, fill it with $500 billion and use that cash to live the rest of my life in luxury.
@captainsuperdawg: Just sigh...
I'd want an indoor swimming pool (approximately 1/4 of an Olympic sized pool)
@pamfenway: A wife telling their husband we need a home theater. Ladies, this is how you receive jewelry.
@coondogg97: Don't need jewelry in your own home theater.
Dreaming of my media room, with its soft, springy seats with cupholders, where every seat is the best in the house, thick carpeting, surround speakers in the carpeted walls, theater popcorn maker, little refrigerator, soft lighting...
This is an easy one. No doubt I would do the kitchen. Make it huge, with tons of counter space, a double range, 2 ovens, lots of freezer and refrigerator space, flat grill, . Top of the line everything (pots/pans, appliances, knives, etc.) and maybe some cool unique stuff like an anti-griddle. Now I am sad that I won't ever have this kitchen...
@csl312: Don't be sad, at least you have a dream.
(I'd like a kitchen with a door on it. So I could shut the cats out.)
@coondogg97: LOL...I'm not much of a bling gal. See all the money we're saving for this theatre?!
I'd want an amazing dining room for entertaining. I love having a big house with plenty of room for guests, but often end up setting up a dining room table in one of the living rooms (ostensibly for the kids, but because I just can't fit everyone in my dining room). Fireplace or two, amazing chandeliers, lots of details, floor to ceiling windows (oh, wait - I might need to move the house to improve the view...) Hey, what about a big room that could just STAY decorated for Christmas all year?
I would demo and reno my kitchen. It's set up as a galley kitchen with a full bathroom in what should be an extraordinarily large kitchen with an island.
All I need is $50,000 for an airplane/roller coaster simulator in my living room and my life will be complete.
really big ball pit with stuff to jump off of and slides. maybe a bar as well....oh and make it self cleaning so it stays sanitary
A two story room for my kids with a spiral slide to get from the top to bottom level. An AT-AT Walker bunk bed for one with a Snowspeeder bed for the other... and a ball pit. Kids love ball pits.
A high-end recording studio. Nice amps and speakers, soundproofing, a mixing board and ridiculously expensive Mac Pro (even by Mac standards), a nice drum set. All the mics I would need. Probably a good bass and bass amp (I've got one of each, but they're entry-level).
Also some books/DVDs on recording engineering, and Ableton Live and Logic Pro.
The whole area would be humidity controlled as well
S&M dungeon
I'd dig a basement and have half the room as an indoor playground with twirly slides and swings and possibly a climbing wall. The other half would be set-up for building and playing with Legos...with, of course, lots and lots of Legos.
Basically, I want the dream room of a 10 year old boy.
@andthentherewerenone: The Italian Job (the new one, with Mos Def).
At times both more and less enjoyable than The Italian Job with Michael Caine.
To answer the question, I would put a basement under my current house. It only counts as 1 room, right?
I'd make it a greenhouse with solar panels. And inside we'd grow our own and also have a sauna and hot tub for relaxation purposes. We are legal.
