Is it possible to have a meat hangover?
I had a few friends come over for the Big Game. Each friend chose to bring a cooked pork product and some form of chip or bread. So aside from a green salad I put out, we had several pounds of pork, and several loaves of bread.
No one slept well, and today everyone is dragging. So - is it a meat hangover?
BTW - on a cool note - I made the

If it is, sounds like it was worth it.
Wow, that sounds incredible.
On an episode of Man vs. Food, the host Adam Richman claimed it's possible to get "drunk" from eating too much heavy food, especially meats and starches. His argument was that the stomach is working so hard to digest everything, the body has to divert extra blood flow to that area. That leaves less blood flowing to the brain, thus mimicking the effect of being drunk.
So if you can get "food drunk", I imagine it can be followed by a food hangover.
It seems highly possible. I have a friend that claims she gets a "meat cough". She has actually started to become hesitant to consume meat due to her fear it will make her start coughing.
Um. With all of that fat, protein and starch, and little if any fiber, you have a bigger problem than the "hangover" thing.
Your PIC of "Bacon Explosion" looks good! Yummmmmy
Well, a friend had his birthday at Espetus - a Brazillian Churrascaria - in the SF bay area.
About $50/person- all you can eat meat. Wonderful grilled beef, chicken, lamb, and pork. Chicken hearts on a skewer - as many as you might want....
I indulged and slept badly and fealt like crap the next day.
I don't know if it counts as a hangover - but the extra helping or 12 of sodium definitely left me dehydrated, and other parts of my anatomy were complaining as well.
@adadavis: Too much deliciousness?
@wingnutzero: This also explains why many people feel groggy after having lunch.
I had rodizio for the first time last october and the place we went to served us grilled pineapple after we told them to stop bringing out meat. Apparently, there are enzymes in the pineapple that help break down proteins and aids digestion.
Nothing better than a bacon induced coma.
@lobstrain: If that's what you want to call it. :-) I'm sure everything will work itself out in the end.
The trick to avoiding the meat hangover is to not stop eating meat. :) and the bacon explosion is making me drool on my screen.
That said, I've been there. Like with alcohol and water consumption, if I'm eating a lot of meat, I'll through in some raw greenery (celery, peppers) to offset. Usually works.
Sure. I have a friend who gets comatose anytime we head to a Brazilian Steakhouse. She also gets something she calls "the meat sweats." She's odd to say the least.
Reminds me of an episode of Kenny vs. Spenny episode (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Kenny_vs._Spenny_episodes)
I think you just need a little hair of the dog.
Yes. Food takes energy and fluids to digest and meat takes a lot more energy and water than most other foods. Processed meats take less energy but tons more fluids to digest due to the salt content. Electrolyte imbalance can cause you feel woozy.
Disclaimer: I'm not a medical professional, but I play one on the internet.
my girlfriend asks me the very same question every morning
that looks delicious! i've heard of getting the "meat sweats" lol
mmmmmmmmmm........ BACON
The bread would also make you lag, possibly more than the meat.
someone tried to put out a green salad at the super bowl party I attended. They were quickly dispatched.
@justagigilo85: I understand that meat tenderizer is made from pineapple...
@kamikazeken: It was a Marshal Salad - and everyone voluntarily ate it. They're yummy.
