Well travelled and lighted area. And bring a friend, just in case.

I'm not a fan of craigslist. Too sketchy for me, and too much hassle generally. Of course, I don't use ebay, or go to garage sales, so it might be a trend.

The men's room at the rest area on the Interstate.

I always prefer the woods or an old abandoned factory myself, but most safety conscious people would prefer a public place that is well traveled or possibly even near a police or fire station.

vote-for11vote-against

I've always used a Walmart parking lot or Fast Food parking lot.

vote-for8vote-against

If it's small enough for me to transport, I go for a Walmart parking lot as they're always busy.

vote-for9vote-against

We have a mall right across the street from the police station, that has a bank on the corner. Plenty of light and plenty of cameras.

I use the Ace hardware store about 2 miles away. I let the people call me when they get there. If it's a small item, we do business there. (security cameras) If it's for furniture and they feel right, we go back to my house. I am never alone. The hulky husband or gianormous son is right there. Nobody ever comes into the house. It's the garage only.

I actually have never had anyone feel wrong. One guy(a non-native), however, kept wanting me to lower my already cheap price for a chair. Wanted $5 more off. Just $5 more, as he was flipping through a wad of 100s & 50s, looking for that 20. Who does that?
I had to tell him, Don't pull that cash out like that. You gonna get killed! He laughed. Cripes, what a dummy.

I usually use a wide open lot down in Homestead, with my buddy Sam waiting in the car with an MP5 and Fiona covering us with a Barrett sniper rifle from a nearby rooftop.

Probably best to go to the other persons house. And if they invite you to the basement be sure to accept, it will help you in your price negotiations. You don't want to offend them.

Meet at a donut shop usually, and bring a friend. 9/10 times their are cops at the donut shop where I meet up.

vote-for4vote-against

The Taco Bell parking lot.

vote-for6vote-against

Bus/transit hub. Not only easy to get to, but always filled with people.

vote-for4vote-against

Busy gas station. Gas stations have lots of cameras and they are easy to find. Cops are quick to get to gas stations as well. I sold an ipad once in a parking lot and we were both totally normal but it still felt weird but then again it was the parking lot of a dennys so there ya go

vote-for3vote-against

We always used Panera Bread. So yeah - well lit, public place that you're both comfortable with.

vote-for2vote-against

I've always met at walmart for both craigslist and ebay local pick ups. They always tend to have cameras everywhere. The local grocery stores only have one or two and are pointed at the doors to the building not the parking lot (according to kroger security) so yeah... walmart for me lol.

In front of your local police department

vote-for2vote-against

Always a public area - always! I would never have someone stop by my house or go to their house.

And I usually talk to the person to see what's most convenient for both parties, but to make sure it's a well-lit and busy area. Usually a food parking lot, store, or the mall.

vote-for3vote-against

Although I prefer the Fire Department parking lot its kinda illegal for me to carry (a concealed weapon) there. Therefore I always go someplace busy and public like Walmart, Home Depot, Etc.

vote-for4vote-against

I would say it depends on what you're selling. If it's electronics, I know that I won't buy something unless I can plug it in and test it. If it doesn't require power, than some place convenient, well lit, and public works fine.

This probably doesn't apply to most people here, but I live in an apartment building with a doorman. I always conduct the transaction in the lobby of the building. Plenty of foot traffic, multiple cameras, nice indoor space, super convenient.

Obviously I never tell the people my apartment number. Rather, I tell them to call me when they get there and wait for me in the lobby.

vote-for3vote-against

Good question - I've never actually had a sale. Only offers to send me money orders of exorbitant value.

vote-for3vote-against

Suggest meeting in a dark alley. If they agree, stay away from them.

I recently sold about $300 worth of Wii stuff to a family. I chose a busy Starbucks in the afternoon on a weekend. Lots of bored, nosy people watching what everyone's doing - If they had tried to do anything sketchy, 20 overly caffeinated people woulda pounced once I started yelling :)

vote-for2vote-against

man up. holster a gun and invite them over to get it.

vote-for2vote-against

CL people can be very flaky and half the time don't show up or show up late so if you don't want to do it at your house, pick somewhere close and public and get them to call you when they get there.

vote-for2vote-against

If you are concerned about safety or security, I wouldn't meet in a parking lot. Do you think the people in the Walmart parking lot are going to leave their kids to chase down someone that you're making accusations about?

Go to a coffee shop, ice cream shop or similar establishment where people are a lot more likely to pay attention/get involved/call the police.

vote-for2vote-against

Your first instinct was right - Starbucks is pretty standard and at least if the other person is late you can have a relax.

vote-for2vote-against

In the parking lot of the local grocery store.

As the Bradley County Sheriff said 2 years ago, "Only perverts use Craigslist"

I have bought 1 van and sold 2 cars on Craigslist...therefore I am a pervert as well as the 3 other people involved.

vote-for2vote-against

@lumpthar: did the van have rear windows?

vote-for2vote-against

In the privacy of your own bedroom. That's what craigslist is for, right?

vote-for1vote-against

@narquespamley: What's in a Relax? House blend decaf and Qualuudes?

vote-for1vote-against

Local police have no problem allowing you to do it at a station or substation. With all the shady Cl robberies and such, it doesn't hurt to be overly cautious.

vote-for1vote-against

Definitely at the abandoned warehouse down by the train tracks.

vote-for1vote-against

major money involved? At your bank.
starbucks, mcdonalds, etc.

Dennis restaurant, or waffle house inside just drink a cup or coffee that way they won't run you out ., you don,t want to do it outside because they can hit you in the head and run with your money .. you can not do it in front of the police station I did that once and the police started asking for ID and he keep steering at us thinking we were doing something wrong ., also never meet anyone on nobody's house.. if you meet at your house they can come back thinking you have valuable stuff and if you meet in there house there can be other people hiding on closet or other room and the will put a gang on your head to take your money and they may not even have anything to sale.
