Has anyone bought anything at a lower price and returned it with an old receipt?
Before Christmas, I bought a Logitech G-27 as a gift for $249.99. Now it's listed for $20 cheaper. I have Amazon Prime, so I figured I could order one at this lower price, open the box, and stick the return form in. I know some people think this is dishonest but that's not the question. Would Amazon try to stop me from doing this?
3 things:
1. How could amazon know? I don't think that they would accuse you of anything like that.
2 I would of just called customer support and get them to give me the difference on my card. You'll have to be nice. Amazon.com just gave a lot of money to second day air mail it to and from your house.
3. I would do this, but not for $20.
What you suggest is easier to do in a store that with Amazon. If your original order is from Amazon and are trying to return to Amazon and you are just returning it because you don't want it, there are two things to consider:
1 - You will have to pay return shipping
2 - Amazon charges a restock fee (I just returned some electronics to them and I did not even open the box)
It will be easier to just call customer service and explain about the price drop and customer service will usually give you a "one time credit" for the price difference.
@captkyle the way I see it- $ isn't much but the amount of work I would have to do is negligeable. I'd say a total of 5 minutes to order the new one and repackage it when it gets to my house. Even if it took 10 minutes, that would still work out to $120 an hour (more than I currently make). Or if I look at it the money save, I could purchase a PS3 game. The only reason I am still on the fence about this is that I don't know if there will be a restocking fee. I don't know if it's because I have amazon prime but I have never encountered a restocking fee or had to pay return shipping on anything I have bought there.
Not only is it dishonest it is fraud
