I like a real, good, old-fashion kettle chip. I don't like crazy flavors. Just a simple sprinkle of seasoning salt, or the like, and bam! good to go.

The Cheeseburger Doritos were the best. I could actually taste a bit of pickle in them, just the way I like my burger. Now I can't find them anywhere. I hate when they introduce a new flavor and then, wham, they are gone.

I've been telling my husband for some time now that I think a Pesto flavored chip would be awesome. I make a creamy pesto sauce for pasta and always save some as a dip for plain tortilla chips.

Doritos are loaded with MSG - I tend to avoid most of them as MSG doesn't agree with me

@omnichad: Thanks for the share, now to find them. :)

@pitamuffin: Ooooo...Pesto flavored chips sound amazing.
I'm not much of a chip person. I'll eat a few if they're served but almost never buy them myself. But pesto flavored could change all of that.

@xarous: Their distribution is pretty limited. But a few small store chains make it available outside the region they highlight on the map. You can always pay a ridiculous price to order online. It's normally $2-3 a bag offline.

@omnichad: I find the best way to enjoy strange new things is to find a friend in that area, arrange a mail swap ;)

So, Lays is running a contest (entry is via their FB page - I warned you!) to develop a new flavor of chips. My stepdaughter and husband love mayo so she thinks that would be a god flavor. I'm not really in the "mayo chip" camp myself. I love a good BBQ chip or sour cream and onion. But I'm intrigued by @pitamuffin's idea of the pesto - sounds delish! What about other typical pasts sauces like Alfredo or marinara (w cheese maybe)?

@ryanwb: ALL chips are loaded with MSG. Well most flavored ones anyway.

@mkdr: Since Lays are already fried in oil, which is what most of mayo is, you'd be adding egg powder and lemon. Not sure if that would be good or just gross.

If anybody finds some Spicy Buffalo Cheddar 'n Chili Doritos let me know and we'll do a swap...those sound delicious! Who knows, it might be a "regional" flavor.

I feel your pain. I love Tapatio flavored Doritos, but have only found them while on vacation.
