How do you keep your plants alive?
I picked up the following over the past couple days:
1 Golden Pothos with vines about 3 feet long
Liquid plant food
An automatic watering system
I put a few drops of plant food in the aqua globe, and it looks like the plant will go through the six ounces of water/food mix in about a week. I figured I'd wait a few days after it empties to refill it, for fear of over-watering. Does this sound like a plan to you green thumbs out there? It's getting indirect light from being next to a window with the blinds drawn.

you need some grow lights bro...
Command plants to take care of themselves.
@davidschronic: It's not that kind of plant.
@mlutz3: Should I roll a d20 for plant placement? If I cast Entangle, will it go after me?
@rprebel: Should consult your GM (spouse, landlord, etc.) for further instruction. If they don't know, maybe you should ask some other plants
Try some Soylent Green. I hear it's all natural and plants love it!
I am the original black thumb. I can never keep a living plant around very long. Try as I might, I either over-water or under-water, over-feed or under-feed. I have gotten to the point where the only plants I have in the house are artficial!
lots of time and care.
@wingnutzero: Sure you're not thinking of Brawndo? It's got what plants crave.
@klozitshoper: I'm 1/2 black thumb, on my mother's side.
I didn't want to take a chance on it (over/under watering), which is why I got the Aqua Globes. It's supposed to be one of the easiest plants to care for...we shall see.
I have had a pothos plant--divided over many times over--for more years than I care to admit (decades). I water it about once every week or 2. Pothos plants are THE plants to have if you don't want to worry about not having a green thumb. So, congrats, you picked a winner!
@klozitshoper: yup that's me! my aunt bought me this one plant though that is so easy to take care of that i can't kill it :)
it's sortof viney and i swear it goes weeks without watering, low light is ok. it's great! i love that little plant. all the rest are fakes because i've had enough of being known as the Plant Murderer among all potted plants. i hear them whispering sometimes
I keep them alive by buying fake ones, like this one:

Actually, my wife has the green thumb. Mostly, indirect light and regular watering.
You chose wisely.
No need to feed it regularly; 2 - 3 times a year is fine unless you want it to reach jungle-strength and climb the drywall by gluing its viney-roots into it. Which reminds me, I really should tend to that patching, sanding and painting...
Pothos - and also peace lilies - are wonderful low-maintenance plants. Both tolerate low light and thrive in indirect morning (east window) sun. If your pothos begins looking shaggy or overly-viney give it a haircut by cutting off excess vine just beyond a leaf.
@afurball: Peace lilies? I read they were called Devil's Ivy! Nothing personal, but I'm gonna stick with Devil's Ivy. I do want it to grow a lot, at least at first. I'm looking to get about 20 feet out of it, so I'll feed it maybe once a month at first and see how that goes.
Thanks for the tips, and the warning about the walls.
I didn't know you were supposed to keep them alive.
Guess I missed something somewhere.
I don't. On my back porch right now are the following:
Dead mums - 2
Dead Spider plant - 1
Dying/dead Rubber Tree - 1
But dogs - those I'm good with. They yell when they want something. Someone let me know when plants learn to talk.
Buy not owning any. I have killed so many plants over the years, it's ridiculous. For crying out loud, I even killed a cactus. I feel terrible about 2 specific plants that I let die. My mother gave me part of her philodendron, that she had had for over 15 years & a rubbertree plant from my grandmother & oh yeah a sweetpea from my brother. I tell people not to bother, because I feel guilty when they are given to me by a loved one & I kill them. It has been a couple of years since I have had a plant & I do miss them. Maybe it's time to give it another go.
