I have an old afghan that my grandma made for my grandpa. It's got all the colors in the rainbow in it and my grandpa, who was religious, called it "Joseph's blanket" like the Bible story with Joseph and his coat of many colors. He passed away when I was 10 months old from leukemia and so that afghan is something I have to remember him by. That and the fact I was named after him.

the summer i turned 15(?) my mom decided on a project "for the girls". so me, sis, and mom went to the lumber yard (several times) and bought lumber, special hinges, stain and legs. we made our own cedar boxes (technically hope chest). we got to pick the color of stain, and design of the legs. we were all there for every nail, cut and curse thru out the process. we felt grown being in on the decisions, building process, and having a place to start storing the things we would "need" to start a home. after they were built we spent the rest of the summer hunting "the right" items to put in them. mom's been gone 16 years, and i still have that box full of memories of her. i also have the blankets she crocheted for the grandbabies after she had been diagnosed w/cancer, and knew she wouldnt make it.

Item that has the most sentimental value: A pencil portrait of myself done by a friend who died a few years ago.

Sentimental item that carries the most value: A 1930's Rolex that belonged to my great-grandfather.

I have a lot of little, every day type things that my grandparents used that have high sentimental value to me. I have my grandmother's every day salt and pepper shakers and the pocket knife that my grandfather kept on his keychain. I also have a wooden coatrack, complete with an umbrella holder that I asked my grandfather to make for me when I was in college and didn't have a good place to hang my coat or keep my umbrella in the dorm. We worked together on the design, getting the design of the legs right and getting the right kind of hooks. It sits in the entrance way at my house and I use it every day.

My baby blanket. My great Grandma bought it for me before she died. My Mom says she use to make them for the new kids, but she was really ill before I was born. Never got to meet her but I hear she was amazing.
When I have a kid, I will use it with them.

We moved a lot when I was a kid, I've lived in something like 100 houses in my life. So I don't have much of sentimental value that has survived all the upheaval. I have my grandmother's family Bible, that has about 8 generations of maternal family tree penciled inside the cover. I have my baby book. When I was only a couple of weeks old my mom put a stuffed dog under my head in the shopping cart and paid for it when she checked out, I still have it. My grandmother gave me a stuffed cat for my 1st birthday and I slept with it till I was 12, she patched and restuffed that poor thing a hundred times. Both those stuffed animals are over 50 years old now and boxed away. I sleep in a t-shirt I stole from my cousin 40 years ago, it's transparent but intact. I have a butterfly pin that I begged off my mom 40 years ago when I was in grade school, she was reluctant to give it to me because she thought I would lose it.
