Did you notice the new "top comments" box in the deals section?
as promised by shawnmiller, they added the "Top Comments" section at the top of the deal posts. we've had it in Ask the Community for a few weeks now.
opinions? do you think people will freak out?
btw, the top comments show on 2+ votes for a comment. sorting by top votes, then post time

noticed it last week. Was wondering what was taking so long.
Noticed it, hate it, do my best to simply ignore it.
Yup. We had an inkling it was going to bleed over to the deals side. It's not enough of an annoyance for me to drag out the pitchfork, & it's too danged hot to light a torch.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll soon figure out a way to get a PM notification envelope up by our "Welcome, Doofus" account log in.
Yeah, that's been there for a few days. Staff said they would be porting it over to the deals side, and so they did.
@magic cave: I am finding it very easy to ignore the top comments, to me it is like reading ahead in a book, I like the story to unfolding so to speak.
@lavikinga: You can get PMs? I have not seen this before.
Not sure what you are talking about.
I'm curious, why would you hate it?
I'm speaking for myself here, but I appreciate it as a Cliff's Notes for the deal.
It might cause people to post inane things just to get Woots and be in the top comments, kind of like how a lot of questions being asked are just for Leaderboard points
@jyelle: You can get PM's on woot!, but not yet on deals woot!
@claudicina: Right! Currently, the only way to know if you have a PM on the other Woot sites is to stumble across it while you are in the Community Sections OR the person who has PM'd you tracks you down on Deals and leaves you a heads up in a deal or comment you've posted. Work arounds. We got 'em!
@gatzby: Comments get voted up for any of a number of reasons, and those reasons are only now and then because the comment is useful. As is true with many other features, I doubt strongly that the community was clamoring for this. Some way to be notified of private messages (like a little open/closed envelope next to our name) would be fabulous.
@gatzby: I don't hate it, but high rated comments aren't always helpful... jokes, movie/TV quotes, or even simple "thanks" can get a lot of woots. And it seems like most deals don't even get enough comments to warrant the feature.
In the Answers section it's better, at least.
@shrdlu: Given then it's not likely to go away, what would you propose to make it more useful? How can we encourage people to make better voting choices?
@gatzby: Why would I want it to be more useful? More amusing is probably plenty. I think that people do not need encouragement, obvious, or subtle, to vote on comments (or not vote). There are so many useful things that could be worked on instead. I liked the idea of doing this, for example:
http://deals.woot.com/questions/comment/19bccdbf-c24f-4916-9526-ab6aeb1e5a40
Site stability is always an issue, as is caching.
I cannot imagine what problem this (top comments/answers) was meant to solve, and we will have to disagree on the utility of it (since I suspect you like it). It's an amusement; no more.
@shrdlu: I fully include humor in the "useful" category, but it would be nice to have those as "top reviews" or critiques of a product -- something that is going to tell me if this really is a good deal. It may be a function of our different approaches and needs for a deal site though.
