I've had similar issues over the past year. Before the shirt change (dead horse), I religiously checked every sale when they changed. Combine that with the free censoring (not that many of them went through for me, dumb luck) and I barely come with intent to buy anymore. Nowadays I only go to deals to find random things and lurk whatever the popular threads on the right are at the time.

On the good side, it's my wallet, not my closet, that is overfilling. :D

vote-for36vote-against

Yeah, I definitely have been spending much less time on here. Seems like it's the same case with a lot of other previous Wooters -- your question only had two upvotes before mine and it was already up in 'top questions.'

The censoring is the main reason that I stopped posting deals. Occasionally I would have my deals deleted randomly, too (I asked the mods about them and they just said "oops").

vote-for33vote-against

Same here. I still check woot almost every morning before work but I used to make up reasons to stay up till 1:00 am (eastern time zone) to see the new deal. My issues aren't with deals.w as I rarely post or answer questions. I ust up or down vote stuff.

My issues are with the products that are now offered on the woot sites. I'm what people here calla black square. I don't know if anyone else can see but last time I pointed at my square it said I have purchased 240 deals. The majority of which I purchased a quantity of 3 per deal. I haven't purchased from the woot sites in some time now except for some snuggie blankets that I gave away to family members. I can't really put my finger on it but it's almost like the products or just junk now. The prices aren't deals anymore. The woot websites look like a jumbled mess of crap slapped together by a highschooler making their first website in programming class (kind of like the incoherent mess that the Amazon item pages are).

vote-for30vote-against

woot! main - less unusual and surprising items.
Deals.woot - More crap from chinese vendors than ever before, more over-moderating.

Then again, When I discover a fun site, I tend to throw myself into it for a while, and then visit/participate less when I find something else that interests me. Not sure if that's why woot! (all woot sites) seem less interesting and fun these days. And yes, I am seeing myself pulling the trigger on woot deals less and less.

vote-for29vote-against

I feel almost redundant posting a response; the four comments prior to mine summed up my own feelings exactly.

It's been a long time since I've made a purchase from the main woot site; the woot-plus deals aren't good values in terms of price or merchandise, and this site is way too full of Chinese-crap sellers and the same old 10 DVD collections. There are very few real deals here, compared to the first year or two, and the lack of BOCs seems has had a bigger negative impact on my interest being here than I would have expected.

vote-for22vote-against

I look everyday but just don't find the discounts or deals as we found a few years ago. I do buy more on the web just not woot.

vote-for16vote-against

I work 3rd shift and it used to be exciting to see what was posted for sale everyday but it takes something cool or a gift for someone to get me to buy anymore. Woot doesn't seem to have the rock bottom deals it once did.

vote-for11vote-against

@micenmore: Great answer! This kind of summerizes my feeling. I have been buying more online now for my business than I ever did before. I just don't really buy it from woot anymore.

vote-for13vote-against

@piratejones: Likewise, it was the shirt change that was the turning point for me.

One year ago, the weekly reckoning was alive with discussion. Nowadays ... crickets.

I'm still buying shirts; just rarely from Woot these days ...

vote-for12vote-against

I am somewhat of a newbie. I have only been coming here maybe 1 1/2 or 2 years. I too have seen a change in the site that must have been fantastic when it was young. I check it religiously, but have found it seems like a lot of electronics like refurbed TVs and a few computers are dominating now. Wish I had seen it years ago.

vote-for19vote-against

Like others before said, the main woots just seem to be trying too hard. I miss "one day, one deal" and Twofer Tuesdays, but you know what? They're not coming back. Ever. As far as DW goes, I don't see much buy-worthy stuff here. It's a lot of the current "hot" item(think Twinkie-maker) that goes from dealsdealsdeals to dailysteals to justdeals to 13deals to .....well, you get my point. I am becoming a more casual wooter with each day.

vote-for18vote-against

I used to post deals regularly but not anymore. I received an email (that made no sense) chastising me for posting deals to what I believe they were assuming was MY site. Something about transparency? It's a craft site I like & wanted to share it. They removed ALL of the prior deals I posted from that site that were expired on my account. I attempted to correct this error, but no one will respond to my emails. Very odd behavior from a company that had a community aspect that I enjoyed.

vote-for18vote-against

I spend less time here as well. I still check the deals, I still order once in a while (when it's worth it), I still try to help in the forums if I have time to dig through them, though there is less and less that can be done. I don't post deals anymore, I had a few deleted for no given reason, then when told to put them back up, got deleted again. It just doesn't quite have the feel anymore. Then if we factor in the shirt.woot changes... whoa. I still look at the design every day, but don't purchase, since I don't purchase, I don't vote in the derby unless I'm directed to something really great.
I have also become a bit jaded with asking questions related to woot policy or operation - because we aren't likely to get a reply. Let alone a fast one. "It's on the list" "We're working on that." "Keep reminding us." Or, my personal peeve, no answer. The awesome people haven't changed, but it does seem that policy has, and not for the better. I like it here, just not like I used to.

vote-for13vote-against

Yes like many others.
I have noticed that the deals are not the 1st thing I check anymore.
I noticed myself checking the ask the community questions 1st now.
As said before the deals are not what hey used to be.

vote-for16vote-against

@bcarr123: Sit around children unkie Caff is going to spin a tale.
There once was a web site that offered one thing a day. Sometimes the item would sell out, sometimes it would not.
The items for sale were strange but priced so low. We had mystery 5.1 speakers, things called leak frogs and sansas. There were Photoshop contest, always interesting entries. Sometimes the thing for sale was a BOC this is bag of crap. It would consist of a bag, and 3 other things. The bag alone was worth over the $8 cost.

vote-for4vote-against

Like others have said, like the others who are saying I used to, I am in the same used to boat....wait, what?

I find myself spending more time on deals.woot! then I ever did. The community is fantastic and unlike any other "deals" board. It seems this community has turned into the high class hoe of all deal boards. If your deal isn't up to par the wootizens will pitch a fit and make you regret not finding a sexier deal to post. We have very high standards here and not just any average Flush Light will get to the front page. But I have to admit, there are days where I am on deals.woot! all day and forget to check woot! proper. I laugh to myself and ask what have they become....

vote-for11vote-against

Sorry that I did not answer sooner. I am here less often and missed the question.

vote-for14vote-against

Yes, I'm among the less-enchanted. I've missed incentive mail from Jumbowoot recently, & the end of buckets of carrots pretty much did away with Wootoff madness for me. I've also become concerned about Woot's standards. Calling plastic containers "pottery" in the descriptions & then not bothering to correct things when it was pointed out that pottery means pottery: well, stuff like that leads me to not trust Woot any longer. It's one thing to have fun with write-ups but another thing completely to mislead your customers. And that may define the change for me: I was once a Wooter but now I'm just a customer.

vote-for10vote-against

I went from hardcore woot (hour updates while awake) to once in awhile I will check..... My wife and I used to look at the daily prints on shirt.woot every night at 1AM.

I would like to think that Woot is pulling in more profit now than before though as they fully transition to mainstream. Otherwise it was all for nothing.

vote-for6vote-against

Shopping-wise, unchanged. Comment-wise, substantially.
I still don't 'get' the points/rating system of a for-profit company. If I got money off EVERY purchase due to a higher rating, I might care, but this seems way too much like a popularity contest now and I haven't the time or patience.

vote-for14vote-against

Man, I wanted to type so much, but it's not like woot even cares about the community anymore.

Yes- I'm barely here anymore.
Yes I'm buying a lot less from woot
Yes I don't appreciate all the censorship
Yes I think woot nearly has abandoned any focus on the community aspect of the site

Yes there are other problems I don't really feel like getting into.

vote-for12vote-against

Yes. And, since a question I asked a few weeks ago which had a lively, fun, discussion was needlessly deleted... I spend less time on Woot since then as well.

It's not the same as it was.

vote-for10vote-against

@cowboydann: Agree w/all you've said. And not said. ;-) And YOU are missed!!

Also, those who posted previously have said about everything I would have said. It's not only not the same...it's sadly lacking. A site you can't search. ...With too many deals. Can't put items in a cart. So many non-deals. No bargains. Ah well, it's all been said before me.

Would like to add 1 thing: I firmly believe the mods who often post here are not at fault. They can't change anything. In fact, I'm beginning to believe that their supervisors (TPTB w/o power) are not at fault either. I think their hands are tied; their mouths gagged.

And so...our opinions are voiced once again. And we seem to be spitting (no, I don't really mean that word) in the wind.

vote-for5vote-against

Definitely don't purchase like I used to. In fact, I seriously can't remember the last item I bought, or when I bought it.

vote-for8vote-against

@gmwhit: seconded, I'm not mad at your toons and gatzbys and jumbowoots, They're all fantastic, and I'm surprised more of those guys haven't moved on to bigger better projects... then again there aren't a lot of jobs out there currently. I'm just disappointed in the lack of deals and what feels like a loss of community.

like narfcake said, it's a ghost town in a lot of places...when is the last time we had a question receive 100+ votes (up or down) that wasn't related about a jumbocoupon anyways?

vote-for6vote-against

@cowboydann: Okay, now. Would NOT use the word 'fantastic.' ;-) Will say again, I think they are unable to DO or SAY much of anything. Like an epiphany (of sorts), this just occurred to me recently. I've wondered/pondered forever WHY we do not get answers to direct questions. Is it because they are unable to answer? Or make changes? I think that's it. I could be wrong. Wouldn't be unusual.

A question w/100 up votes...this may be the one. Will it matter? Doubtful. Will anything change. Nope. ::sigh:: ....in the wind.

vote-for7vote-against

@gertiestn: Wait, did they officially say they are no longer doing bags of crap?

I check the shirts with fair amount of regularity, but I don't try to comment on them every night like I use to. Between the price increase and the outsourcing, I've drastically reduced the shirts I buy. The side sales were cool at first, but woot sacrificed a good layout for a cluttered look that quickly bores the eys. The woot-offs are no longer fun, the cool, kitschy items have all but vanished. In their place are item that are way beyond my budget, so I hardly every buy anything. Thankfully they went back to the quality screaming monkeys, or it is likely I wouldn't be buying anything at all from the woot-off.

Over the past year though I keep feeling like I am watching my favorite website do things to repeatedly shoot itself in the foot with the aforementioned actions. I want them to correct the problems, but I worry one day they'll get a head shot in and finish the site off.

vote-for11vote-against

aaaaand my comment critical of the side sale on shirt woot got deleted. =( I has bigger sad.

vote-for6vote-against

@cowboydann: I noticed your absence and stopped by IRC but you were out there too.

vote-for6vote-against

@bluejester: I don't recall any official word about the discontinuation, but between the lack of them in the in multiple woot-offs and the full on omission of Santa's sack, it's very likely that they're not coming back. Over the years, I've only managed to purchase one, but knowing that they existed kept me paying more attention during the woot-offs; that doesn't happen anymore.

vote-for5vote-against

@bluejester: You must have bagged on a Ramy design.

ETA: It is plain and obvious and plainly obvious that Woot has shifted to a more mainstream approach. That includes nurturing a different audience. Service is still great, and there are pockets of awesomeness from staffers, but that isn't corporate mandate, that's individual altruism.

@narfcake: I'm pretty sure TT made the announcement that there would be no more BoC outside of Social media specials (e.g. the 90s paraphernalia giveaways)

j5 j5
vote-for5vote-against

@j5: Shows how much I've been paying attention, then.

vote-for5vote-against

@j5: I never saw that one, do you remember approximately where/when she said that?

vote-for4vote-against

@thumperchick: Not sure where, it may have been FaceBook, but it was around the last 'toff I think.

j5 j5
vote-for8vote-against

@j5: I bagged on today's design. I've seen today's artist's work over on Teefury, the shirt is an uninspired riff IMHO, and the side-sale more so. If I'm sick of pop-culture stuff, then it really must be through the roof. And if they've said no more BOC in the woot offs, that's just plain silly, it drew people in. I guess they really are going for the head shot on themselves. I know I sound whiny, but man oh man....my site has gone downhill.

Have I complained about the write ups being too short now as well?

vote-for7vote-against

@j5: I missed that too. Was that a social media announcement. FB and companies relationships make me think of:
Overly attached girlfriend with overly attached girlfriend. Like me!

vote-for5vote-against

@bluejester: Wootoff is for moving product. A BoC in the mix disrupts that. The fact that there was a battery sales instead of a BoC on Christmas is pretty indicative of the future of BoCs.

Can't speak to the other stuff, as I didn't see your comment. I thought as long as criticism was about the design, then they were pretty lenient about criticisms, guess not.

ETA: re: writeups

j5 j5
vote-for6vote-against

@j5: that would be news to me. Word on the street is BOCs are simply being ~reimagined~ not nixed and not necessarily something else. I don't have a monopoly on the giveaways (which are not BOCs, or at least we don't consider them BOCs), we've just been able to figure out how give stuff away on Facebook (with Big Brother's legal's blessing) so I do 'em when I can.

vote-for6vote-against

@agingdragqueen: Today's misinformation was brought to you by J5 Misinformation Enterprises, Inc.
At J5 M.E Inc., speculation and hearsay is fact.

Sorry, I guess I either misremembered or unnecessarily extrapolated a prior comment.

j5 j5
vote-for4vote-against

@j5: no worries, I dig. I don't know how to solve ALL THE THINGS, but at the very least I can speak to my social domain.

vote-for7vote-against

ohhhh so is this where all the worthwhile discussions ran off to?

vote-for4vote-against

My biggest complaint is the average cost of the item being offered. I'm not looking to spend hundreds of dollars! Offer good/decent quality lower priced items and I'll bite!

vote-for2vote-against

Yes, now I don't even think about it if I don't have time to check WOOT in the morning, before I would check it first thing. I don't find any good deals except sometimes the ones posted by the community, and the prices are way too high to be a deal and the products are usually refurbs. When I can get new one ( of whatever) on Ben's, why would I even look here.

vote-for2vote-against

I've been toying with just saying good-bye. I rationalized that I liked getting their emails bc they made me laugh out loud at times, but that happens less and less now too.
I'm feeling pretty sure that the fun items I didn't even know existed are no longer gonna be showing up on main woot, much less the amazing lock-n-lock deals.
Whether we like it or not, we have been forced to say good-bye to the woot we all fell in love with - saddest thing may be that we didn't know it until now.
