@okham You're not related to me are you? I was at a cookout this weekend with family, ridiculing some of them for setting their s'mores marshmallows on fire. I in turn was ridiculed for taking too long and being more likely to have mine fall into the fire.

I am of the "rotate until golden brown" persuasion. I also use two marshmallows for every s'more.

I'm a slow roast marshmallow kind of gal. But, we also tend to use peanut butter cups on our s'mores. They are soooo good.

If I get to make them at a campfire - whole graham cracker broken in half, cold piece of chocolate, and a golden toasty marshmallow.

More frequently, I make 'em in the microwave. Graham cracker bottom, thin mint cookie, flattened marshmallow on top. Microwave for 3 seconds, repeat until the marshmallow is BIG but not explodey, top with the other graham cracker.
The mint is a FANTASTIC addition to the smore.

I get about as far as charring the marshmallow, and eating it, never getting around to the chocolate or graham cracker, typically. The outside of the marshmallow should pull off, like a skin. A crisped black skin. Mmm.

I use half as much chocolate and marshmallow as most people. I call them "S'lesses"

I take that soft marshmellow as a tear goes donw my cheek thinking of all the firends he will miss him. then i take hersehys chocolate and two gram grackers. I have a grill cheese maker for my fire pit that is square and closes in both sides. What a genius and retard at the same time. Grilled cheese when you can make a mouthwatering smores with the grahm and chocolate marshmellow filling. someone should heat that grill cheese maker and smack him in the face with it. You put it inside the fire after artiscaly creating you master peice open take out and enjoy. Just think of all the friends that will be lost that night, and all the grill cheese that will sit lonley scared alone in the dark cold fridge.

I take my time making s'mores, and I must say, I make an awesome s'more. I definitely agree with slow roasting the marshmallow, but I continuously rotate my marshmallow so I almost never loose mine. We have a fire pit at my house so I like to set the graham crackers and chocolate on the edge so it toasts the crackers and melts the chocolate. I love my s'more to be all melty and messy.

I also set my marshmallow on fire, it's easier that way and I like them burned, then stick it between the graham cracker and some chocolate. But I somehow end up eating way too many marshmallows and maybe only one or two actual s'mores!

I usually slow roast the marshmallow to get it gooey, then flame it at the end. I like it blackened but you have to melt the mallow first so the chocolate will melt.

When I was growing up in California many decades ago, s'mores were always made with peanut butter to hold the chocolate on the graham cracker during assembly. These days I never see that being done.

(And since we have a family member with a peanut allergy, we now avoid peanut butter like the plague.)

Have not made s'mores in soooooo long. Were I to do it again, I'd use dark chocolate. Heresy, I know. :-/ Marshmellow toasted a lovely brown, not burnt. Craving now.....

No! You can't burn the marshmallows for s'mores!
The s'mores marshmallow must be well toasted such that the exterior is a medium brown and crisp while the inside is warm and gooey. It takes time and skill, patience and a good understanding of physics in order to evenly toast the marshmallow while not dropping it. When the marshmallow is perfectly toasted, you assemble the marshmallow with one graham cracker, 6 squares of Hershey's milk chocolate, the marshmallow and a final graham cracker. It is perfectly acceptable to use the upper graham cracker to help remove the marshmallow from the roasting fork however care must be taken to not completely smush the warm, gooey inside out of the crisp, toasted outer shell. The s'more can then be properly enjoyed.

Mmmm....s'mores.
I have often said that I judge a gentleman by his s'more making ability. Sadly the last two men who made me perfect s'more were also happily married. Oddly enough they were also pastors. Maybe they teach it in seminary.

I toss the marshmallow into the fire and forget about it while I enjoy the graham cracker and chocolate.
