You're not the only one. There are a boatload of unopened boxes in our entryway from Amazon and woot and assorted other on-line retailers. We are waiting until this weekend to do a marathon of wrapping.

As for me, I always open my packages as soon as I receive them. I do this to make sure I received the proper item and it's not damaged. You have a better chance of resolution if you contact the company as soon as the product is received than if you wait a couple weeks.

@cengland0: me too, but then I tape them back up for later, I am running out of time.

@caffeine_dude: I wouldn't even tape them back up. It will take less wrapping paper to wrap the product box than it would to wrap the woot/amazon box, unless you get an oddly shaped object in the mail. Also, if you ordered 3 of an item as gifts for different people, it still seems more reasonable to open the shipping boxes to wrap each item separately.

@cengland0: Or just make sure all three of them are in the same room and give it to them together. But then again I hate wrapping gifts :-) I'd just asume get them in a Walmart bag or woot box.

Back to the question. I usually open my woot boxes but go ahead and store and my wife usually wraps them in the woot boxes. This year I have a few sitting in my office at work filled with gifts for my wife :-)

I have a few..... I miss the old boxes

I miss good woot-offs, Two for Tuesdays and sansa stuff too.........

I open my boxes the second I get them. I usually buy a lot of stuff from woot at once so I save on the shipping, so I'm never quite sure what's inside. It makes me more fun for me...I open them and I'm like "oh yeah!!! this thing!!" and check it out. Read the packaging and what not.

However, I have a huge stack of broken down woot & amazon boxes in a stack in my garage. Once it gets really tall, I put it outside with a sign that says free boxes. It is always gone within a day. Remember the last time you moved and how expensive boxes were? How much of a jackpot would that be, seeing a nice stack for free? I guess it's a way I give a deal for gettin' a deal :)

Only the most recent deliveries are unopened. I make sure everything is accounted for (I had to call Think Geek because they shorted me an item) and keep a running list. But even with that, I always have one kid that I've gotten too much for, simply because he likes all kinds of things and is easy to buy for. So I am out the door today to hit the mall to pick up a few more things for the other kid. I hate the mall.

@kmashaney: that's a great idea for the boxes. I usually let mine build up in the basement, and then put them out for the recycling pick up.

I did have unopened boxes, but I just got burned and I don't think I'm going to do that again. I got this:
http://home.woot.com/offers/prep-co-jumbo-muffin-set-2-colors-2
for my fiancee in October. I took a quick look to make sure it was correct, then put it aside, and wrapped the whole thing. She really loved it. Until she took a closer look and saw that one corner of the cover was crushed, and another was cracked. This was apparent until it was removed from the bag.

I was able to superglue it back together (more or less). The cover is just a transport cover: it isn't really functional any other way so a bit imperfect won't change the function of the item. Since I can't tell if this happened prior to shipment, during shipment, or while it was at my house AND this was ordered in October I can't really complain about a broken item.

Moral of the story is avoid the trap: open the boxes and inspect the items as close as you can BEFORE setting them aside.

You are a good person for this singular act! :)

I always open ASAP to check the contents for damage, wrong items, etc.

Mine do not normally make it home before I open them. The boxes go to the porch for reuse later.

@cengland0: I take the items out of the boxes before I wrap them, I tape them up again for security reasons. For some reason everyone wants to know what they are getting for Christmas before Christmas.
