Pop Tarts. Toasted or untoasted?
I think the question says it all. What's your preference?
This can also apply to any other breakfast pastries you may prefer.
Yes please!!
Depends on the tart in question. Some are better cold, some are better toasted.
Cinnamon and S'mores definitely toasted. Any of the fruity ones can go untoasted and be just as delicious.
Since I'm old and fat I don't eat Pop Tarts anymore, but the smell of the kids toasting Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Smores Pop Tarts is a little bit of heaven on an otherwise bland and fiber filled breakfast table.
Toast em if you got em.
TOASTED! With butter!
When I am at home and eat them, I toast them. But when I bring them to work and eat them in my office, I don't bother toasting them. Luv the Strawberry Frosted and the Cherry Frosted :)
Nice and warm with an Ice Cold Glass of Milk!
Untoasted. All kinds. And I've had to cut myself off: if I buy them I gobble them in no time at all.
I don't believe I have ever toasted one. They're fine right out of the box. Or vending machine...
I generally prefer bread products warm. But I prefer pop tarts cold. For some reason heating them up makes them even sweeter, and they are already pushing too sweet for me. But they are such a great travel food.
What kind of monster eats them untoasted? I am civilized so I eat them toasted.
Untoasted, but I don't like toasting anything. Hubby likes the fruit ones, I like the extra terrible/awesome ones full of crap like chocolate fudge.
@eraten: Exactly what I came here to say. Soulmates?
Typically I've always eaten them toasted, but since I moved departments we don't have a toaster...I haven't tried to bring one in yet, so I just heat them up in the microwave...I've pretty much gotten used to it...I guess they're OK this way as well.
Very rarely would I ever just open them and eat it.
Untoasted and always will be. One of my fondest memories is of my family going on fishing trips as a kid. My Dad and I would be up before my Mom and sister every morning. We would take the boat out and do some fishing until about 9:00 in the morning. I'd take out a package of strawberry poptarts and eat those in the boat to tide me over. To this day, I can't eat them without thinking of fishing with Dad.
No one else likes em microwaved? Not too long, maybe 10 to 15 seconds. Quicker than toasting and more toasty than "raw"
Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon.
Must be toasted.
It depends on the flavor. The S'mores variety must be toasted to reach their full potential. I like the fruit ones just fine cold. Cinnamon I could go either way on.
@eastonfrost: True dat. Toaster too slow. Need warm noms faster. Microwaved toaster pastries FTW.
People actually eat pop tarts? Wow.
Have you ever put poptarts in the freezer? Some of them are GREAT frozen.
When I was a kid I would eat them and toast them; now looking back they cause you to get insanely thirsty, and unless you're drinking hard liquor you won't be getting that crappy taste out of your mouth.
Toasted w/ butter on top!
Personally, I eat'em whatever way is convenient. I do PREFER the chocolate ones (of various types) warmed up... the fruit ones, I'm not real picky on. Pop-tarts are like eating cookies for breakfast though...
...with butter on top? Guh.
Most certainly toasted. If I wanted untoasted, I would just grab a Nutragrain.
Freeze 'em! Especially the vanilla milkshake flavored ones are great frozen.
Otherwise, toasted please.
@vistaseas: You have reached a new high in achievable decadence.
I like the fruit ones untoasted. For some reason I tend to prefer the generic pop tarts over the real ones as well.
Toasted. But I don't eat the fruit filled ones.
A special treat when I was a kid was a toasted Strawberry Frosted PopTart with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. YUM! Not for breakfast, of course. Well, not OFTEN for breakfast.
When I was a kid, "frosted" pop-tarts had yet to be unleashed. Toasting was always the way to go. When frosted became available, to toast or not to toast became a hot topic (oddly enough). People were concerned about frosting in a toaster - again, this pre-dates toaster ovens.
@lotsofgoats: maybe you should try toasted Nutrigrains
I used to like pop tarts, until I read the nutrition information. The serving size is 1 (2 come in a package) and its like 500 calories for if you eat both. Just not worth it for empty calories....
Untoasted though as usually I would grab a package whilst heading out the door.
I'd have to with what others say.. it depends on the flavor and my mood.
Usually I eat mine on the go, so I guess untoasted.
@joe43wv I have never eaten one frozen... now there's an idea!
Also, what's with people putting butter on them? that sounds weird...
@rockytrh: exactly what I meant when I said "wow, people eat pop tarts?"
thank you :)
Toasted, and the outer "crust" part eaten first.
I have an emergency pack in my desk.
Situations to use emergency pop tart:
Bad day, pop tart.
No time for lunch, pop tart.
So tired may fall asleep at desk, pop tart and coffee.
Question on deals reminding me of pop tart in my desk, pop tart.
Not toasted, who can wait the 2-3 minutes toast one!?!
Toasted, the chocolate chip cookie dough flavor.
They briefly had a Mint Chip flavor that was delicious, but was apparently discontinued. I bet that one would have tasted great frozen, but I never tried it.
Fooooooooooood. Just gimmie!
Either. It just depends on how much time I have and whether a toaster is available.
Microwave for 15 seconds, it will change your life.
@freakyjoker: Came here to say this. Be careful not to nuke them for any longer because the filling can become molten.
I only eat the Cinnamon ones and I never toast them
Eeew, Raw pastries!!?? That sounds unappetising and uncivilized :-)
(Now if the wife and kids aren't looking... in the garage, under my bike helmet... cherry make a nice start to a ride)
Untoasted for me. I usually end up with a mess when it's toasted.
@badpookey: We had a toaster oven in the late 70s when I was a toddler, and I'm sure the frosteds came out later than that.
On the general matter of the question:
Strawberry with frosting: Toasted, usually so it's a tiny bit burnt on the edges, leaving the rest crisp and the filling near liquid.
Cinnamon with brown sugar: "Raw".
I haven't toasted mine in years. I use them as a mid-morning snack at work.
I have a tendency to burn my fingers and tongue when I toast my Pop-Tarts, so I prefer untoasted. Frosted Cherry, to be exact. Mmmmmmmmm...
@eastonfrost: I like them microwaved. I think they are all delicious this way. That is unless I toast some brown sugar cinnamon ones and spread creamy peanut butter on top and a nice glass of cold milk.
AGhhhh! Im craving poptarts I hate you all! lol
Either way works, so long as it's not covered with cat fur. ^_^
