My "favorite" backyard games that I play with my family are "Puppy, please don't eat that poop!" and "Dog, I promise that you are not going to be able to climb that tree in order to catch the rabbit that actually ran into the neighbor's yard ten minutes ago so QUIET already!" :)

At the moment, my favorite backyard game is squeaky tennis ball fetch, although "pop those bubbles!" with my neighbor's toddler is also lots of fun.

Bocce ball is my favourite.

Washers here in texas, kind of like horseshoes but you try to get the washers in a hole.

There are several good answers in this thread from last month. My personal favorite is fetch-that-freaking-ball-you-stupid-dog, said in a kind voice and with a smile.

I like volleyball, some beers, a bunch of friends, it's always a good time :)

I live in Texas. Summer time backyard games include, "It's 107 degrees and you want us to play croquet?", "I've taken baths in water cooler than the water in the pool" and, my favorite, "No, really, it is hot enough to bake cookies in your car. You're eating them right now.". We've got a bit of time before we get quite to the point where we move the croquet game to the living room (wickets set up in sand filled water bottles, nerf basketballs for balls. It's actually a lot of fun) so it's time for bocce, croquet and Ultimate Frisbee (although that's more in the field behind the church 1/3rd of a mile from the house).

@jsimsace: Oh my. I searched the question first and didn't find that, and it didn't come up in the similar-questions alert before I posted either. Now I see it over there in "similar questions". Can I unquestion a question, kind of like unfriending a friend at "another" social site?

Don't worry about it. The search feature isn't exactly the greatest, and your question is different than that one. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!

@unheardfury and @gt0163c I'm from Texas too and we play "Get drunk and fist fight" it's pretty fun and if we are to drunk to do that then we play washers or beer pong!

SACK RACE! Great question!

Egg and spoon race (we used hardboiled to save mess).

Water balloon toss (Teams of 2. Stand across from partner and toss water balloon. Each successful catch you take a step backwards. If balloon pops you're eliminated and wet.)

I play a mean game of croquet, and we're talking take no prisoners mean. Shame I haven't gotten a chance in what feels like forever. I also love watching my dad and his brothers play horseshoes at family picnics. Yeah they've aged, as have I, but it's pretty damned close to the feeling of stepping back into my childhood when the sand sprays up and you hear one ring as it hits the spike.

I just bought a slackline that I'm super excited to get set up in the back yard.
