My freezer has a light. Next question?

Some say that the freezer is too cold for a standard light bulb. If it generates heat quickly, it can crack the glass of the bulb. Modern day LED bulbs could probably get rid of this problem but people are used to not having one in the freezer so why would the manufacturer take on the extra expense of adding one?

I always figured it was just too cold. And you shouldn't be opening your freezer that much anyway! :)

@inkycatz: Imagine how much less you'd need to hold it open if you didn't have to find what you're looking for by touch.

My side-by-side fridge/freezer has a light. I've had to replace them before and they are called "Appliance Light Bulbs" that are designed specifically for cold temp usage. Same thing for oven bulbs. Not exactly sure, but I was told that these are made with a special glass coating that insulates better than normal incandescent bulbs.

I couldn’t imagine not having a light in my freezer. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself

My ten year old POS cadaver-sized chest freezer from Sears has a light. Well, it did until it burned out and I've been too lazy to replace it. My older side-by-side has TWO bulbs in it. Still can't find a darned thing in there when I'm in a hurry.

No light in my cheapo freezer, either.
You could hang a mini flashlight from a magnetic hook on the side for midnight freezer raids (or would one of those tap lights work?)

Ooooh! Ooooh! I'm like most here. I have a light in mine!

I was going to settle for a light in the freezer, but I rather enjoy the fireworks display.
