Hamburgers all the way. When I was younger, like 10 years ago before the burger craze that has been going around. I once made some burgers, wrapped them in bacon and put them in the oven, let the bacon cook and then melted cheese on em. Tossed them on buttered English muffins. I thought they were killer but too much effort.

Keep the beef cold, handling to a minimum. Don't salt the beef till you're ready to cook since salt breaks down muscle fibers and makes it mushy. Once saw a video on YouTube by some chef but I can't seem to find it now. Showed how I like to make my burgers.

Hamburgers cooked with Worcestershire sauce (a.k.a. "Sizzle Burgers"). YUM!!

Hamburgers over hot dogs.

I make various different types of hamburgers, some plain meat, some with onion soup mix worked into the meat, others with horseradish, some with garlic. It really depends on what I have on hand and feel like doing.

Another vote for hamburgers. I never crave a hot dog, and if I order one, it is generally whatever sausage version is available.

That's a tough one. What kind of burger are you talking about? A big, juicy, GOOD burger or a frozen bowling alley burger? If its the latter I will pass, if not I will always go with the big and juicy.

Is there really a choice. The only way that i pick a hot dog over a hamburger is if i am in chicago

Why not both? There's a place nearby (Bob's Burgers & Brew) that serves something called the "Double Dutch Burger": a hamburger with a hot dog coiled on top. It's actually pretty good.

I will add only one point to this conversation. Dogs get mustard, but never ketchup. Burgers get ketchup, but never mustard. Such is the the order of the universe.

I only eat hot dogs on two occasions... baseball games (Fenway Franks all the way!!!) & a dive boat I work on cooks them on the way in - 100% all beef, toasted bun... yum! Otherwise, burgers - blackened (rare) with blue cheese!

@mfladd: I disagree but respect the decision. My uncle owned a tomato company years ago - he was ANTI ketchup (encouraged going with fresh tomatoes), so I've followed suit.

I guess I'm the odd one out, I love beef kosher hot dogs, maybe it's because I'm a NuYawker

My philosophy has always been why choose, just have both.

I don't think it's such a clear-cut answer. I'm guessing that most people are talking about supermarket hot dogs here, and I'd agree that any decent non-fast food hamburger would beat them hands down (except maybe Eddie Murphy's Mother's Big, Welfare, Green-Pepper Burger on Wonderbread). However, there are some fantastic dogs (aka sausages) out there in the world, some of which will blow away an ordinary hamburger.

It's all about the quality of the ingredients, the skill of the chef and the palate of the consumer. Heck, I've made hamburger patties and dogs out of nearly the same mix of meats. And they were both great.

Since I'm still not sure if the ingredients listed on this Woot shirt are truthful or not ... burger, please.

Hamburgers for sure. I sure do love Five Guys' double cheeseburgers....

It is situational to the event. hot dogs at a baseball game

I prefer hamburgers to hotdogs, but I like a nice grilled brat better than either.
