Various animal rescue organizations, charities, food banks, church funds, -money donations all. Goods to Salvation Army, Goodwill, Amvets, Habitat for Humanity, church sales, etc. I particularly support the Fibrolamellor Cancer charities because it is such a dreadful diagnosis with no known cure. It affect the very young.

Of course. I prefer to volunteer because I myself am not well-to-do, but try to contribute somehow. I like going to local food banks around this time, but a lot of different organizations need extra help year-round. My only thing is that if you volunteer, try to really give yourself over to it and appreciate the experience. Consider inviting a group of your friends/co-workers/classmates and make a day out of it. You get to work with your buddies and do some good.

Regarding donations, just make sure you properly vet charities and their practices before-hand.

While some practices are less attractive than others, the money you donate will help someone in the end, so don't let minor things detract from you donating entirely. As they say, every little bit helps.

It gives me great joy to be a part of giving of time, money, and gifts. My family volunteers at the local Salvation Army. We have packed boxes of gifts for families who won't have much of a Christmas, as well a boxes sent to some of our troops overseas.
We give to various charity organizations that we know do their best to make a difference in the lives of others.

It shouldn't be just during this season tho. Take the money you save with Woot! and do something to help others!

The last two years I have rung the bell for the Salvation Army. It's amazing to see how generous people are!

I will buy nearly anything from any kid who asks me to help support their youth group. Trails End Popcorn? dropped over 200 on it this year. Wreaths for scouting? dropped 75 on those. "help my band get to Washington DC this year?" several cheesecakes in the freezer, and a couple butter braids.

If the kids approach and ask me, I'll drop money on the spot. If the kids are off playing, and the adult asks me, I'm less likely to buy... When I say if the kid approaches me, I literally mean I will kneel down to their level, and ask them what I should buy, then proceed to buy that. (hence how I dropped 200 on Trails End popcorn this year)

I rarely donate cash, but I donate time and gifts. This year I got four gifts for people from the Giving Tree (two kids and two seniors), one gift for the Toys for Tots Box, and gifts for each of three boys who will be going into foster care right after Christmas as their mom (and sole parent) is being moved into hospice and not expected to see Valentine's Day. I usually volunteer to serve the meal at a homeless shelter but they have lots of volunteers this year. I have donated canned goods to a couple of recent food drives and participated in several walks for a cause this holiday season. My Great Dane and I volunteer every week with the local Alzheimer's residential care unit through Paws for Love. It's especially important at this time of year as some of these folks don't have any family left.
