I hope they don't pull their Prime streaming content off the other boxes and make it exclusive to their device.

@hossdawg97: And if they do I hope they figure out how to stream with surround sound. Not getting 5.1 on prime streaming just plain sucks.

One thing's for sure: it'll be cheap. Amazon's all about the loss-leader.

@hossdawg97: I doubt they'd do that. Amazon App store is available for all devices. Their money comes from the service not the devices.

I can't understand why they feel this is necessary. Just get your app on the already existing devices. Then there are no production costs for the hardware (and patents). You'd only have to continue to produce and support the software.

Surely it's a rumor. I just can't see how it could be profitable this late in the game.

I can't see this as being a worthwhile investment for them. With the exception of the Apple TV Amazon Video is on every other streaming device. These include Roku, Xbox, Tivos, and a whole boatload of TVs and BluRay players. Why would they want the hassle?

Since Amazon is the "mother-ship" will there be a channel called Woot-TV created? And will they show a random pics of BOCs just before the service crashes?

Amazon video streaming is available on most devices, including the Ipad and Iphone.

However, to my sadness, it is not available for any Android device except the various versions of the Kindle Fire (tho there are Android workarounds to be found)

@hossdawg97: Only on the "History Of Woot" channel.

I disagree on the claims that it's a bad idea as far as profits go. From what I've seen, the Roku devices are some of the most popular products on Amazon, and if they can manufacture their own and sell them as Amazon branded devices with Amazon branded accessories with Amazon branded streaming services, they're pretty much set. Roku's incredibly popular, and if they're just replacing that spot with the Amazon box, they're saving themselves whatever markup Roku is taking from the current purchases.

simliar questions according to dw: Did you hear the Boston Marathon was bombed? ... Do they know something we don't?

Hmm...Who would buy it? It would be like a Roku without Netflix! And probably without a lot of stuff that Roku has.

Their streaming service is awful (compared to Netflix) so what's the point?
