My bad luck turned out to be the best thing ever. I went to College for Phlebotomy, graduated, got my certificate and license and was then denied over and over again because I didn't have '3-5 years experience'... Don't even get me started on that idiocy. Anyway, I got myself a job at Walmart figuring it'd hold me over until I got a job in my field. Best / luckiest decision I have ever made. I ended up working for this woman and became quite friendly. I ended up leaving, but we kept in touch. Now she's my best friend and I can't imagine not having her in my life. :)

I know it's the obvious and cheesy answer, but finding my wife was pretty great.

Luck-wise? I won $1000 in a 50/50 raffle at work. That was pretty sweet.

The day my daughter was born.

@wnyx585am: I am right there with you. I'm who I am today because of my wife...33 years this year.

Of course, sometimes she had to smack me around pretty hard to fix what I was (2x4s hurt) but, I think that everything I am today has been influenced by her. Some of done myself and she's helped move me along, other stuff she was more of an influence than I think she even knows.

One day, I was trawling this wide expanse that we call the Internet. Then, the most amazing thing happened! I found myself staring at a page that left me breathless. The supple green background (rgb(97, 134, 30), of course!) and the flavorful prose that we written so thoughtfully to describe what exactly it was that I was experiencing made me feel so at peace with myself. Thinking back on that day, I can't help but be grateful that I found Woot! some five years ago.

My son being born. I was sure I didn't want kids pretty much right up to the moment he was born. He's 18 (almost 19) months now and he is the best thing in the world (no offense to all your guys' kids). There is no question that I am a better person now because of him.

like @benyust2 I would have to say my kids. But in regards to winning something, I won a $50 Wal-Mart Gift card when I was 8. Thats a lot of money to an 8 year old. When the first Wal-Mart opened in Aurora, CO the use to give kids an entry into a drawing when they brought carts in from the parking lot and they actually picked me. I was thrilled. I still have the mini poker slot machine I bought with the GC :-)

I have to echo the birth of my daughter and the amazing woman that she is.

Meeting my DH and then having kids with him. The 3 best days of my life, my wedding, my son's birth and my daughter's birth.

Outside of marrying DH and having our 3 beautiful kids, I entered a writing contest(!) and won a trip to Tel Aviv for four. Brought my parents and hubby. It was amazing.

Convincing this Cute Red Head(now my wife) to go out with me on a second date.

Getting clean and sober made everything good in my life possible and the birth of my daughter is and will probably always be the highlight of my life.

Everytime I think I've got the definitive answer, something better happens.

Going out to a bar near campus with friends when I REALLY didn't feel like doing it. I met my husband there. 34 years and two wonderful kids later, it is still the highlight of my life.

On a more mundane note, back in 1983 or so (yes, my memory does go back that far), I filled out a slip for a drawing at my local grocery store and won an Atari with eight games! Came darn close to developing carpel tunnel syndrome from playing Asteroids, Pac-Man, etc., but had a blast with it. I've won a few bucks on football boards, a few door prizes, a couple of art shows in middle and high school, and a few creative writing contests, but I'm still waiting for that PowerBall jackpot to come in.

Meeting my husband, which has resulted in 13+ years of bliss and 2 sons. I can't imagine life without them.

First and foremost is finding my amazing husband despite living on two opposite sides of the ocean, and making it work long enough to make being together a possibility. Considering how young we were and how rarely we got to see each other over 5 years, it was well worth the wait. Every day I wake up with him by my side is the best thing ever.

I think of sweepstakes/contest winnings kind of things, I won a $150 pair of sunglasses from Cinzia Designs a year ago, a $220 Panasonic camera from CD101, $72 of nail polish from Zoya.

Special mention to winning an auction that let me go on stage with my favorite band ever when they were on the Warped Tour. Easily one of the best once-in-a-lifetime experiences I've had, and has had great aftereffects in that I'm quite friendly with the band now, they recognize me and we chat and so forth.

Well, my first ever B.O.C. was one of the super BOCs...

I received a pallet from Woot with over 1000 action figures on it. 1000+ of the exact same action figure, delivered to my office...

Thankfully I worked for a game developer at the time. Within a week the office was full of military execution dioramas. Conference rooms, desks, in the freezer, next to the coffee filters. They were everywhere.

I gave some out as halloween gifts, I donated about 700 to Toys for Tots, and the rest I sold on eBay then donated the proceeds to the local food bank.

Me being born is the best thing to ever happen to me. I guess it's also the worst thing to ever happen to me sometimes.

Uhm. one time I bought a scratch card before going to Disneyland with some friends, won 200 dollars and spent it on dinner for all of us at the blue bayou (that restaurant inside the pirates ride) That was pretty nice.

Sort of a long story. The short version... I test poorly. Did poor on SATs (took it 3 times), so my mom... being the good mother she is, had me apply to 11 different colleges. Because I am a good student- 3.9something GPA, extracurricular activities, etc.) I got in to every single one. 10 of them offered scholarships ranging from a couple thousand a year to full rides + play money. I, I can't remember why anymore, decided to go to the one school that offered me nothing, was across the country, and had the most expensive tuition.

It forced me to break out of my shell, discover who I was, and finally see for myself the potential I had. Best decision ever.

Oh, yeah, and I met my now wife in college.

I should say meeting my husband or giving birth to my children, but the highlight of my life was fulfilling a dream I've had since I first saw The King & I at the age of five - traveling to Thailand.
