What do you use - Gas or Electric Mower?
It's January and I'm already looking for a new mower. I have a friend who swears by his cordless electric, but I'm still leery on electric mowers. I feel like I shouldn't be, but don't know enough people who have them. If they are so much better - why haven't I seen more people using them? Anyway - anybody have an electric mower? If you have a gas mower - why stick with that and not go electric?
I'd take comments or suggestions on snow throwers too.

Mowers: Neighborhood kids that need an extra five bucks. Because I would spend that in gas/electric alone to cut my yard. Saves me time and energy. Makes the world greener too.
Snow throwers? Same boat, just different season. Gosh, kids these days will do anything to pay for that WoW/SWTOR account.
I use (or rather I have my kids use) a reel mower.
Gas. I own both, but the electric one is just a huge pain to use. Dragging around 200' of heavy gauge extension cord only to have the mower choke if the grass is a little too long or thick just isn't worth it. Needless to say, come spring time, the electric mower is gone.
When I was a young kid we used a push power. That thing never broke.
Until recent years, I used gas. It does a great job. It has no issues getting enough power to spin those blades fast. The downside is it breaks every year. That wasn't the case on our old Craftsman, but is for every modern one I've come across. It's a miracle to get it started every spring. Each year, after it doesn't start, I service it per the manual. $15 and 30 minutes later I have a slightly better chance it will run.
2 years ago someone gave me a corded electric. It doesn't have as much juice as the gas. Can't cut through the jungle of weeds as easy, but it does with a little extra time. When mowing ahead of the overgrowth, it's not an issue at all. The only downside is I went through 3 extension cords before I decided it's time to get rid of the green ones.

I've never used a cordless electric... That just sounds like a bad idea to me. I know I'll kill the battery storing it in the shed every winter. Plus, I have a big yard. I find it hard to believe it can last long enough to provide consistent energy for the job on one charge.
(edit: And I meant push mower in my prior post. Missed the edit window there. Though it is powered by push power.)
Electric would probably be fine for a small yard, but I wouldn't use one for a yard more than 1/4 an acre.
Gas, self-propelled.
I purchased the Earthwise 24V Cordless mower last year, So far I absolutly love it. No chords to tangle with, no need to run to the store to fill up a can of gas, very easy clean up and it does the job extremely well on my 1/4 acre lot.
I have since started replaceing all my lawn equipment with bettery powered electric versions, most from the Earthwise brand.
I have both a gas and electric mower. I use the battery powered electric mower the most. However it's not too powerful, so I have to use the gas push mower, when I've gotten lazy and the grass has grown too tall. I really don't like mowing the lawn. :(
Small yard, so it's just a manual reel mower here. The one I have is probably older than I am; beyond 'Made in England' being cast on the side of the frame, I have no idea what brand it is.
Occasionally oil and sharpen the blades, and that's it for maintenance.
I have a cordless electric mower that I really like. Got it cheap through a deal from the city (turn in your old, earth killing gas mower, get a voucher for a giant discount on the expensive cordless electric). It works really well for me. I do have a small yard (about 1/8th acre) and mow often enough that I don't have a lot of big weeds/brush to deal with. I like that the mower is light and easy to turn around in small spaces. I also like that it's really quiet.
Unless I move to a house with a bigger yard, I don't think I'll ever go back to a gas mower.
Gas mowers now have a problem they didn't have in the past. Its called ethanol and its total crap. Ethanol does not work properly in small engines. It causes all sorts of issues and is the cause of most recent dissatisfaction with lawn mowers. It shortens their lives and makes them less efficient. You can either find ethanol free fuel if you live in an area that allows that or you can get fuel stabilizers and drain your mower after every use. Ethanol is not stable and bonds with water easily. The fresher your fuel and the better you are about emptying your mower the better it will run.
I have both and use both. I almost always use the cordless electric mower on the yard around the house. It cuts cleanly and mulches the grass, an I can usually cut the whole yard before the battery needs recharging. I've had it for 4 years and have never had a problem with the battery. The only problem is that the battery need to be recharged for about 16-18 hours after using it, so I have to wait a day if I still have more yard to mow. I could get an extra battery, but I'm not in that big a rush.
I use an old gas mower for clearing the pathways down to the barn and outbuildings, and the weeds in the garden. Since the ground can be uneven and damp, the electric mower doesn't work as well there. Also, the gas mower can self-propel and the electric can't (though there are electric mowers that can.)

never breaks, no expensive gas, no expensive battery, no tune-ups and it builds character..
Or if you make the big bucks, and you have enough character:
